Synthesis• The chemical Atropine is synthesized through the reaction of Tropine with Tropic acid while in the presence of Hydrochloric acid.

• This process of synthesis was first discovered by Richard Willstater.

• Natural Sources: Solanaceae Family and Belladona.

Chemical and Physical

Properties• Solubility: Low solubility in water, 1 gram Atropine dissolves per 2 mL alcohol.

• Physical state: White crystals or crystalline powder.

• pH: In water the solution become Alkaline.

• Melting Point: 114-116 C• Boiling Point: 393 C• When heated to decomposition, toxic fumes of oxides of nitrogen are emitted (Sax , Lewis, 1992)
