OUR SCHEDULE IN VARDOMorning: BIOTOPE architecture & nature (www.biotope.no). Two guys from England, who have two years experiences. Their project is a bird observing construction near the coast in the west island of Vardo. The project is to sat-isfy people needs to track birds coming across Vardo based on deep research about bird map-ping, meanwhile protect bird with making people falling in love with them then care them, then care climate change issues etc. On the way back to school, we visited a famous project in Vardo, the mon-ument for witch died, which is a fly in and fly out project, which means the builder never ask local people needs, so the local people do not care it because they are not part of this project. When the monument opened, the queen was invited, from which we can figure out how important of it. But local people disappointed with it, and no one introduces this project even do not know it when a tourism group visited Vardo. So the monument is a stupid pro-ject without invited local people joining in.

Afternoon: taking a walk around the city, there are two project, one is natu-ral heritage and cultural heritage pro-tection project, which aims to protect the special architecture in Vardo most of which survived from the German burned in World War II. The other is a art project, whose creater is Pøbel. Pøbel called his friends to do something for Vardo, then they organized the art project with working with children. They had a good dialogue with local people, and they are really welcomed by local people. The art project make Vardo alive forever and Vardo will be never die. People began to talk about old memeo-ry of Vardo again, understood what they need more clearly. When Vardo art pro-ject showed, other places invited Pøbel to do same project in their city, but he said NO, because the art project belong to Vardo only.

The next day morning: HamningbergIt is a abandoned fishing village, but now improved a lot with gettingfund from government, a guy who worked in oil industry tried to do that. And now the church has already held a wedding, and a Russia style cabin built near harbor. After World War II, Norwegian came back from Russia, tried to build connection with family, and improved the bad condition of Hamningberg, make it better and better. They try to figure out a new way to communicate be-tween historic houses and their owners.

QUESTIONS AFTER LECTURESWhat the main income of Vardo and how many people live here?The main supports are fishing, school and small company, and there are 2000 peo-ple live in the island.HAMNINGBERG SRUPRISING GETTINGIn the past, people can recognise the house master wealth condition from the house color, the whilte house is the rich-est, because white paint for house is most expensive. The wood to build cabin in Hamningberg comes from Russia, where has rich wood materials in large amount of forest. The funny story goes like that the big trees fell down to the sea, along the coast flowing to north Norway, peo-ple live in Hamningberg get free wood materials for cabin.Birth bark as water-proof material in the roof.

The ordinary construction actually is a military secret base, researching high-tech radar relevant techonogies, moved from US to Vardo in 1996. Local people know little about this project.
