As Cathaoirleach of Armagh GAA, I would liketo extend a warm welcome to the AthleticGrounds this evening for the Cormac LeonardCommercials Junior Football ChampionshipFinal.

Welcoming the players, management and thesupporters of Belleeks Laurence O Tooles andForkhill Peadar O Doirnins.

This game has the potential to be a realcracker, between two South Armagh rivals. There is no doubt that Forkhill have had atougher route to the final. Having defeatedEire Og after extra-time and then meeting lastyear’s beaten finalists, Derrynoose, in the semi-final. These tough games will certainly standthem in good stead.

Belleeks on the other hand, accounted forClady, Dorsey Emmetts and St. Michael’s withconsiderable ease. Forkhill will look to theircounty stars to see them through, whereasBelleeks will look to the Quinn and McParlandbrothers, alongside Callum O’Neill and DrewMc Verry to try get them across the line.

All in all, this is a real mouth-watering contestand I for one would not like to make a call.

Thanks to both teams for supporting themental health awareness by wearing bib intheir watm-up today with the Take 5 steps towellbeing message.

Unfortunately, due to the Covid-19 pandemicnumbers at today's county final aresignificantly reduced, but as a county, thehealth and safety of our patrons is our numberone priority. I would ask all our spectators tofollow the safety guidance for post-matchpresentations and not enter the pitchenclosure.

As the championship season draws to a close, Iwant to take this opportunity to thankeveryone who has attended our games.

Your help, patience and co-operation hasbeen exemplary and without this, it wouldhave been impossible for our stewards totheir job in the way in which they did.

I want to thank our stewards; thesevolunteers are certainly the unsung heroes ofour association. The way they have workedthroughout this very difficult time has beensimply amazing.

Once again, I would like to thank CormacLeonard Commercials for the continuedsponsorship of our championship.

I want to thank all our sponsors and thosewho have supported our county over thepast year. Without you, it would beimpossible to run our games the way inwhich we do.

Today’s game is brought to you by LinwoodsArmagh TV for those at home and abroad. What a job they have done this year. Withpeople unable to attend due to thepandemic, these volunteers are a credit toour association.

I want to thank our CCC for all their workduring this very difficult year. When thisseason began, no one knew where we wouldfinish, but thankfully we made it here totoday's county final.

I want to thank our groundsman Ronan andhis assistants Noel and Liam for themarvellous work that they do in having ourpitch in great condition.

I would just like to finish off by wishing ourreferee, his officials, and both our competingteams, an enjoyable day. Let’s hope we haveanother great final here in our magnificentstadium. I wish everyone an enjoyableafternoon and wherever you are watching, enjoy the game and stay safe.

South Armagh will be the location for theSean Quinn Cup this season as bothBelleek and Forkhill hope to etch theirname on the trophy.

Forkhill have been favourites to do so from theoff and will carry that tag into Saturdayevenings encounter. Belleek will not beworried about bookmakers odds and knowthat they have enough quality to trouble theiropponents. They’ve put up huge scores in allthree of their championship games to date, and their full forward line is a match foranyone in the division.

They have recorded 3-19 (vs Clady), 2-15 (vsDorsey) and 3-15 (vs Newtownhamiliton) intheir three championship games this season.Their experienced full-forward Sean McCreeshis the focal point of a deadly attack and willtake some watching this weekend. DrewMcVerry and James McParland complete theinside trio, and both found the net in their lastouting.

Captain Callum O’Neill has been in inspiringform for Garreth Thornton’s side and hispresence in the centre of the park has beencrucial in guiding Belleek to the decider. He builds up incredible pace with his lungbursting runs and he is well accustomed tofinding himself on the score sheet. Hismidfield clash with Forkhill star StephenSheridan will make incredible viewing andshould be worth the admission fee alone.

Whoever comes out on top of that fascinatingduel should go along way in deciding whichside comes out on top. You can’t talk aboutForkhill without mentioning Jemar Hall, whohas been the most impressive performer inthis year’s championship.

His partner in crime up top is Cormac Toner, another talented attacking threat for his side.Interestingly however, Forkhill have yet to raisea green flag in their two championship games.Barry Shannon is another star name in theForkhill ranks and his experience will onceagain be key for his side.

There are huge question marks over theavailability of two players on Sunday however, one in each dugout. Can Paddy Burns makehis first appearance in the red and green thisseason and strengthen the defence, currentlybackboned by Tony Canning along withOwen and Connor Donaghy.

Will we see professional boxer Fergus Quinnenter the fray for Belleek, after coming on inthe second half against St Michael’s.

Plenty of questions remain but one thing is forsure, these two side should serve up a ding-dong battle.

TODAY our county finalists will wear bibs in theirpre-match warm-up to raise awareness of the'Take 5 steps to wellbeing’ as this week marksthe launch of a regional mental health andemotional wellbeing campaign - ‘WorkingTogether To Promote Mental Wellbeing'.

The Take 5 Steps to Wellbeing are a set of toolsto help us maintain and improve our wellbeing -by thinking of them as our ‘five a day’ we shouldbuild these into our daily lives. The steps areConnect, Be Active, Take Notice, Keep Learningand Give.

The Public Health Agency hope thatencouraging people to Take 5 Steps toWellbeing will help prevent people reachingcrisis point and encourage people to recognisethe signs in themselves and others and knowwhere they can get help as early as possible.

It is vitally important to remind people that ifthey or someone they know is experiencing acrisis, that the 24/7 crisis helpline Lifeline (0808808 8000) is available at all times.

It is important to remember that mental healthservices continue to operate across NorthernIreland at this time. If you are concerned aboutyour physical or emotional wellbeing, you shouldcontact your GP.

‘Take 5’ for mental wellbeingWorking together to promote mental wellbeing,Armagh Chairman Michael Savage said, “As asporting organisation we recognise theimportance of promoting positive mentalwellbeing with all our members. Mental illnesscan affect anyone, including family, friends, colleagues or teammates. By building these fivesteps into our daily lives, we can look after ourmental wellbeing.

"Whether that be, playing or volunteering at yourlocal club the GAA is a great way to be active, connect, take notice, give and keep learning. Iwant to thank our county finalists for supportingthis important initiative today. Go raibh milemaith agat.”

Manager'smessage

Chairman'smessageIt is an honour to be chairman of Peadar ODoirnin GAA, Forkhill in the year we havemade it to Junior Football ChampionshipFinal. It is 39 years from our last appearance ina championship final, a day still recalled bymany club members when Forkhill won itsfirst junior championship.

Many players since have given many years ofservice to the club without success, so it isimportant that all players savour and enjoytoday. 2020 has been a difficult year for allGAA families and Forkhill has been nodifferent as we seek to live with a dangerouspandemic. In addition, a number of familieshave had to deal with the passing of  closerelatives and we remember all of them today. In particular, we remember the sad anduntimely recent death of Pauline McGovern, our club Treasurer until very recently.

I thank all our sponsors, our coaches, ourplayers, our committee, and all our membersfor their continued support.

Finally, I wish good luck to both teams andofficials and trust it will be a sporting andenjoyable game, obviously with the right result!

Thomas  Quinn, Cathaoirleach

I have really enjoyed my first season with PeadarO Doirnin, Forkhill. It has been a positive andenjoyable experience for me, and I hope for all theplayers.

The team and coaching staff have all workedextremely hard to get us to this County Final. Our plan was on not only to get to the final, but todevelop a  style of play that suited all the team.We have worked on changing players mindsets, working harder at training sessions and ensuringthat we play as a collective team during  games.

I thank the players, coaches and all those whohave helped to prepare the team for today. I also thank the committee for their co-operationwith me and the team throughout the season. We showed great character against Eire Og andDerrynoose to reach today’s final, but I have nodoubt that Belleek GFC will come prepared andmake for a great game.

It is a great honour for me to captain our club intoday’s Junior Football Championship final, onwhat is a brilliant day for all involved.

Football has provided a welcome release forboth players and supporters alike in recentmonths, and to have the chance to compete ina county final this year was almost unthinkablein March.

To that end, Armagh County Board deservegreat credit for running these championshipsunder difficult circumstances.

A word from the CaptainI would like to thank our main sponsorMarkey Drilling for their support all year, aswell as Camlough Joinery, Edge Innovate,

Murphy’s Gloves and OKB Holdings for theirgenerosity over the recent weeks.

As a team, we are relishing the opportunity totest ourselves against a formidable Forkhillside, and hope the hard work we have put induring the year will stand us in good steadfor a tough game.
