    WELCOME

I want to welcome you to our school and our football program. This handout contains information on a wide

variety of topics. It has been developed so that there is no confusion regarding expectations of your son(s)

when they are a part of the Chaska Football Program. This copy is for your personal use. Please review it, thensign and return the last page to Coach Brown.

    TEAM DISCIPLINE

    Athletic participation is a privilege

As a member of the Chaska Football Program, you belong to an elite and highly visible group. No matter how

successful we are on the field, we will always be judged by our behavior off the field.

As a member of this program, you are expected to conduct yourself like a champion both on and off the field.

This program demands that you attend every class and conduct yourself like a champion.

As a member of this program, you are expected to treat people with respect and class. You must refer to coach

as Coach (Coach Brown, Coach Hall, etc) Also, you are expected to refer to teachers, administrators, andall school personnel as Mr., Ms., or Mrs. (Mr. Brecht, Mrs. Hanson, Mr. Stein etc) These people deserve

your respect. They all work very hard to help you become better people.

    THE TEAM COMES FIRST

Personnel decisions in a team sport cannot be democratic in nature. Coaches will discuss every playersperformance on a regular basis. When a final decision is made in regards to rank on a depth chart, it is always

done with the teams best interests in mind. Each individual in our program has a right to question the coach

staffs decisions with regard to their own situation. You as a player must come and address the staff about yoursituation. This is not a job for your parents. However, once this discussion takes palace and a decision has beenmade, you as a team member have two choices: 1) abide by the decision and act as a positive influence in the

program. If you still disagree with the coaches analysis of your skills, then your job is to prove in practice that

you are deserving of a starting position. 2) If you simply cannot act in a positive manner, then you will beasked to leave the program.

Championship teams are not distracted by discontent, jealousy, and rebellion. A great team will be reduced tomediocre amidst these types of problems.

At Chaska, we try to attain a championship status. All of our coaches and players are expected to live the

following words. Read it carefully. It best describes the prevalent attitude amongst great championship teams.THE TEAM COMES FIRST!!!

    EXPECTATIONS OF ATHLETES

We expect that our athletes will be dedicated to the sport of football. Athletes are separated from others

because they are dedicated and because they are willing to make sacrifices in order to be successful.

    Freshmen

The freshman year is an adjustment year. Our athletes are starting school in a new building and at times can be

confused about the proper direction of their lives. We realize that they are in a discovery process and will give

them the chance to explore and make the adjustment.

    Sophomores

The sophomore season is usually the year we see the most growth. It is an important year for both skill and

physical development. By the end of the season, players should have an idea of the techniques for their positionas well as the physical requirements necessary for playing at the varsity level.

    Juniors

Juniors must prove themselves superior to a senior before they will be a starter. They need to be prepared tohelp the team however they can. They must show exceptional dedication and skill if they are going to start

    before a senior.

    Seniors

We expect that our seniors will be the leaders of our program and will set a good example for the youngerplayers. We will give the first chance at playing to seniors but they must reciprocate by being the most

dedicated. We believe that their dedication should carry over into other school activities and their everyday

    lives.

We will expect that all of our athletes will abide by the Minnesota State High School League training rules. Wedo not want any young person in our program that is not willing to follow these rules. We would hope that our

athletes will eat healthy, well balanced meals to maintain their health. Rest is also important. We do not

encourage students out late on the night before a game. Athletes need rest. We set a minimum eight hours pernight for them.

    EXPECTATIONS OF COACHES

    1. Football is an activity that can help the physical and mental development of a young man. Our coaches

should attempt to make each athlete feel successful in some way. Not everyone can or should be a starter buteach can feel a sense of accomplishment. We do believe in separate starting teams for offense, defense, and

specialty teams to give as many players as possible a chance to participate.

    2. With help from parents we will try to keep football in the proper perspective.

    3. Since football is a very physically demanding sport and there is a chance of injury, coaches should be

expected to prepare young men with the proper skills and conditioning. We will do the following:

Purchase the highest quality equipment possible

Hire the best possible staff to give our team members the best skills and techniques. Provide the best conditioning available.

I must put in a plug for weight training here: We have programs both during the school year and

summer. An athlete is missing a good opportunity for success in our program if he refuses to weight

train, but more importantly a weak athlete is more likely to be injured when he does not participate.

    4. Football is a game and should be enjoyable. We will try to make it fun in both practice and the games. Two

things really help in making football fun. One is participation the other is winning.

    EXPECTATIONS OF PARENTS

We would expect our parents to be positive about our program. If a parent makes negative comments about our

program it prevents success and hurts others who are participating. When an athlete hears his parents speaking

negatively, he learns to be negative not only about our program but about others too. Parents are the mostimportant teachers in their childrens lives. They teach by example. If there are problems, direct them to the

coaches and try to make positive suggestions.

Help recruit good athletes. Encourage other athletes and their parents to become team members.

Try to attend as many games as possible. Athletes feel very positive about their parents attendance.

Dont be afraid to volunteer help. If there is something that you would like to do for the team please feel free to

ask. We can use your help!
