Athlete AnalysisA serious kicking athlete with an extraordinarily strong and accurate leg. Sawtelle first developed his kicking talents through 13 years of recreational and competitive soccer experience along with Kicking/Punting experience in both Junior and Senior high school football. Over the last several years, Sawtelle has consistently ranked among the top kickers at numerous National and State kicking competitions. In 2004, he was his team’s high scorer with a total of 52 points. At the end of their 10th week, Sawtelle’s field goal stats were 9 of 12, with a season longest field goal of 51 yards. In practice, Sawtelle’s field goal record is 67 yards. This year, Sawtelle was singled out among three top-ranked kickers at his high school to handle field goals and PATs. Coach Slaughter divided the kickoff and punting duties between the remaining two top kickers. Despite being assigned as the field goal and PAT specialist for the 2004 season, Sawtelle has demonstrated skills and talents needed to be an all-around Division I kicker. According to kicking expert, Paul Assad (Pro College Football Director), Sawtelle has “Demonstrated D1A ability charting 20-55+ yd field goals off the ground and 4-second kickoffs 70+ yds.” On January 15-16, Sawtelle competed at the 3rd Annual National Kicking Competition in Las Vegas (http://www.chrissailerkicking.com/). As a finalist, he placed 11th overall among seniors competing in all three finals events (field goals, kickoffs, and punting). Coach Chris Sailer notes that Sawtelle “Has a great leg.  Has D1 potential.” Sawtelle is ranked as a Top 2005 Recruit by kicking expert Paul Assad and as a ½ Top 2005 Recruit by kicking expert Chris Sailer.
