Welcome to Atherton Elementary! You are now an Atherton All-Star. We are so excited to start the 2017-2018 school year. At Atherton Elementary, we want to build a love of learning in all of our students. We work tirelessly in supporting all our students to reach their full potential, focusing on respect, strong work ethic, drive, and determination. I look forward to working together with you to support your child through their PK-6 grade years and beyond. I am so happy that you are now a part of the Atherton Family! Below are just a few of the procedures to help you get started here at Atherton.

Morning Procedures/Being on time:

Doors of the school building are opened at 7:45 am. Students can either go to the cafeteria for breakfast or the designated hallways until the bell rings. Please do not drop off students before 7:45 am as there will be no supervision for your students.

Students may not play at the park before school. First school bell rings at 8:10 a.m. The tardy bell rings at 8:20 a.m. School is out at 3:35 p.m. PK a.m. hours are 8:20-11:20 a.m. PK p.m. hours are 12:35- 3:35 p.m.

For the safety of our Atherton students, we will continue to have a designated pass-thru lane of traffic (third lane). We are asking that parents use the second lane (closest to school) only for drop-off. Please attempt to pull-up as close to the cross-walk as possible before dropping off your children. Please have your children exit the vehicle from the right side. This will keep students away from the moving vehicles in the pass-thru lane (third lane). Please remember that morning drop-off is the busiest between 8:10 and 8:20 am. Please attempt to arrive before these times in order to avoid being tardy to school.

Picking up your child:

Students will not be dismissed after 2:45 pm. If you have to pick up your child early for whatever reason, please do so before this time.

Please park in the school parking lot or the lane nearest to the school if you need to get out of your car to pick up your child.

Parents are allowed to park in the 2nd lane closest to the school temporarily in order to pick up students. Please have children enter the vehicle on the side closest to the school.

Our 3rd lane is for drive-thru only. Students in 3rd-6th grade who are “car riders” and who do not have younger siblings will be picked up in the back parking lot

(by Legend and Briar Meadow Dr.) All other students will exit the building through the doors on the east side of campus (facing Brantley Hinshaw Park).

Students in PK-2nd Grade will wait with their class inside of the building. PK and Kinder designated pick-up door faces Overbrook. First and Second grade designated doors face Brantley Hinshaw Park.

With parental permission, older students may walk to a younger students’ area to pick up their sibling(s). They will exit the building and walk to the younger sibling’s area.

All students and parents need to use the cross-walk to cross the street. For student safety, please refrain from crossing the drive-way in any other areas. Unaccompanied students may only utilize the cross-walk in front of the main school entrance.

Please do not park in staff designated parking spots. Students may not play at the park after school unless they are supervised by an adult. The park is open to the public after

4:00 p.m. We currently do not have an after school program, but we can provide you with a list of the daycares in the area. If your child is picked up by a Daycare, please make sure to fill out a Daycare Form, notify the teacher and the front office. Remember: Please bring/have your ID at all times when visiting the school or picking up a student. This is for the safety of

your child and the rest of the students. You will need to stop by the office with your ID when visiting the school to obtain a visitors badge and to go through our Raptor System.

Absences:

If your child is going to be absent, please notify the front office by 10:00 am. If your child is picked up by a Daycare, please make sure to notify the Daycare if your child will be absent for the day. After 3 unexcused absences, you will get a notification in the mail regarding your child’s attendance.

Communication:

We strongly encourage communication between the school and the home, so please feel free to contact the teachers (or administrators) via notes, email or phone calls.

In order to maximize instructional time, we will not forward phone calls to teachers during instructional time. Please leave a message in the office, and we will make sure to pass the information along to the teachers.

Please schedule conferences or calls with teachers during their planning time, before school, or after-school. Teachers have a roomful of students during the day, and will not be able to conference during class time.

Behavior Expectations:

Please see attached PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports) matrix listing behavior expectations throughout the building. Please discuss with your child. Each classroom also has behavior expectations.

We want to encourage our students to show their STARRR Behavior (Students Together Are Ready, Respectful, and Responsible.

In our hallways we follow WAVE (Walk, Arms to Your Side, Voices Off, Eyes Forward) Please see attached expectations for adult behavior in the building. Please remember that we are models for the

impressionable students around us.

Extra-Curricular Activities:

We offer many opportunities for extra-curricular activities at Atherton. These include the following: Atherton Showstoppers (Step Team), Chess Club, Robotics Club, Atherton All-Star Singers, Spelling Club, Student Council, and various UIL clubs. More information will follow as we determine club sponsors and the final logistics.

Procedimientos de la mañana/Llegar a tiempo:

Las puertas de la escuela se abren a las 7:45 a.m. Los estudiantes pueden ir a la cafetería para el desayuno o a los pasillos designados hasta que suene la campana. Por la seguridad de los estudiantes, favor de no dejarlos en la escuela antes de las 7:45 de la mañana, ya que no están bajo ninguna supervisión.

Los estudiantes no deben jugar en el parque antes de la escuela. La primera campana suena a las 8:10 de la mañana. Los estudiantes están tarde a las 8:20 de la mañana. Las clases terminan a las 3:35 de la tarde. El horario de Pre-Kinder de la mañana es de 8:20-11:20 a.m. El horario de Pre-Kinder de la tarde es de 12:35- 3:35 p.m.

Para la seguridad de nuestros estudiantes de Atherton, seguiremos utilizando el tercer carril para tránsito continuo. Estamos pidiendo que los padres utilicen el segundo carril (el más cercano a la escuela) para dejar a sus hijos. Por favor intenta de pararse cerca del paso de peatones antes de dejar a sus hijos. Estamos pidiendo que sus hijos salgan al lado derecho del vehículo. Esto mantendrá a los estudiantes más lejos del paso de automóviles. Recuerde que el tiempo más activo es entre la 8:10-8:20 de la mañana. Por favor asegure llegar antes de este tiempo para evitar llegar tarde a la escuela.

Recogiendo a su niño:

Si usted necesita recoger a su hijo/hija temprano favor de hacerlo antes de las 2:45 p.m. Favor de estacionar su carro en el estacionamiento de la escuela o en el carril más cercano a la escuela si va a bajarse del

carro. Los padres de familia pueden estacionarse temporalmente en el segundo carril más cercano a la escuela para recoger a los

estudiantes. Favor de pedir a los estudiantes que se suban al automóvil del lado más cercano a la escuela. El tercer carril está reservado para tránsito continuo. Los estudiantes de 3er a 6to grado que viajan en carro que no tienen hermanos menores esperarán a sus padres en el

estacionamiento que está atrás de la escuela (por la calle Legend y Briar Meadow Dr.) El resto de los estudiantes saldrán de la escuela por las puertas al lado este (en frente del parque Brantley Hinshaw).

Los estudiantes de Pre-Kinder a Segundo grado esperarán con su grupo adentro de la escuela. Los estudiantes de Pre-Kinder y Kinder saldrán por las puertas del lado de la calle Overbrook. Los estudiantes de Primer y Segundo grado saldrán por las puertas que están en frente del parque Brantley Hinshaw.

Con permiso de los padres, los hermanos mayores pueden recoger a hermanos menores. Los hermanos mayores saldrán de la escuela y caminarán alrededor de la escuela a recoger a los hermanos menores.

Todos los estudiantes y padres de familia deben cruzar la calle utilizando el cruce de peatones. Por seguridad de los estudiantes, les pedimos que por favor no crucen en ningún otro lugar. Los estudiantes que caminan solos deben cruzar la calle en el cruce de peatones más cercano a la entrada principal.

Favor de no estacionarse en los campos reservados para el personal docente. Los estudiantes no tienen permiso de jugar en el parque después de la escuela, a menos que estén bajo supervisión de un

adulto. El parque está disponible para la comunidad después de las 4:00 p.m. Actualmente no ofrecemos programas de cuidado de niños después de la escuela. Con mucho gusto le podemos

proporcionar una lista de algunas guarderías (daycares) en el área. Si su hijo/hija es recogido por una guardería, favor del llenar el formulario (Daycare Form), avisarle al maestro/a, y a la

oficina. Recordatorio: Usted siempre debe de presentar su cédula de identidad al visitar la escuela o al recoger a su hijo(a). Esto es

para la seguridad de su hijo(a) y los demás estudiantes. Siempre deben pasar por la oficina de la escuela a presentar su cédula de identidad y obtener un pase de visitante del sistema “Raptor”.

Ausencias:

Si su hijo(a) va a estar ausente, por favor notifique a la oficina antes de las 10:00. Si su hijo(a) es recogido por una guadería, favor de notificarles si su hijo(a) estará ausente. Después de 3 ausencias injustificadas, recibirá un aviso por correo con respecto a la asistencia de su hijo(a)

Comunicación:

Les pedimos siempre mantenerse en comunicación con la escuela. Favor de comunicarse con los maestros (o administradores) por medio de notas, correos electrónicos, o llamadas telefónicas.

Para no interrumpir el tiempo de instrucción en el salón de clase, no se pasarán llamadas durante el tiempo de clases. Les pedimos dejar un recado en la oficina, el cual le haremos llegar al maestro(a).

Favor de comunicarse por teléfono o pedir una conferencia durante el tiempo de conferencia del maestro(a), antes de clases o después de clases. Los maestros tienen un salón lleno de estudiantes durante el día escolar, y no pueden tener una conferencia cuando deben estar dando clases.

Expectativas de Comportamiento:

Favor de discutir nuestras expectativas de comportamiento con su hijo(a). El documento adjunto indica el comportamiento adecuado en el transcurso del día escolar, incluyendo en el salón de clase.

Queremos que los estudiantes muestren su comportamiento “estrella”. Esperamos que ellos estén listos para aprender, sean respetuosos y sean responsables.

Las expectativas en los pasillos es que los estudiantes caminen con sus brazos al lado de su cuerpo, callados, y viendo hacia el frente.

Favor de repasar las expectativas de comportamiento adecuado para los adultos en nuestra escuela. Favor de recordar que somos un ejemplo para todos los pequeños en nuestra escuela.

Actividades Después de Clases:

Ofrecemos muchas oportunidades para actividades después de la escuela. Estas incluyen: Atherton Showstoppers (Step Team), Club de Ajedrez, Club de Robótica, Atherton All-Star Singers (coro de la escuela), Club de Ortografía, Concejo Estudiantes, y otros más. Atherton All-Star Parent Expectations

How can you help your Atherton All-Star be ready, respectful, and responsible?

Be Ready • Make sure your child is bringing appropriate items to school and has all of the

supplies they need to learn in class. • Inform nurse of any medication changes or illnesses. • Allow a child with a temperature above 100° to rest at home. • Try to schedule your child’s appointments and vacations during breaks. • Please remember that 2:45 pm is the latest time a student will be dismissed for early

dismissal.

Be Respectful • Use appropriate language and tone in the building. • Dress appropriately for the school environment. • Use the appropriate communication channels to address a problem. • Schedule appointments to meet with your child’s teachers during non-instructional

times. • When calling a teacher, please make sure to do so during non-instructional times or

leave a message in the office.

Be Responsible • Call the office by 10:00 am, or send a note to the teacher to report an absence. • Know your child’s teachers and friends • Keep up with your child’s assignments and homework. • Notify the school of any changes in behavior • Communicate any concerns to the teacher, administrators, or counselors • Make sure your child has good attendance and arrives on time (7:45 drop off/8:20

tardy bell) • Enforce the school dress code • Remind your child of schoolwide expectations • Give the school your emergency phone numbers and updated information • Communicate with the teacher in regards to your child’s afterschool/transportation

plans.
