Our Qualifications

Our qualifications are the culmination of expert input from colleges, sector skills councils, industry professionals and our qualification development team. We have developed a suite of awards, certificates and diplomas that offer progression from level 4 up to level 7.

Key features of the qualifications include:

• core units that are common to different sectors offering the opportunity for learners to move between sectors, or delay decisions as to which area to specialise in• small qualifications that can be used for professional development for those in employment, or for learners who do not have the time to undertake a full time programme• flexible methods of assessment allowing tutors to reflect the most appropriate methods for their learners

The following chart shows how learners could potentially progress through our qualifications and through to our progression routes. These routes are only examples, the decision to recruit a learner onto a programme is made by the college following their own recruitment policies.

Delivering

Small QualificationsDelivering small qualifications as short courses is an excellent way to provide a more flexible offer. This is particularly important for those, who only have a limited amount of time for study.

Many of the units that make up these qualifications are common to a number of qualifications. If you are providing the “Level 7 Diploma in Strategic Management”, you can open up some of your classes to learners who just want to study one unit, for example the “Organisational Behaviour” unit and market it as a short course.

The Transition Once learners have completed short courses they can accumulate further credits by studying additional units and over time complete a Diploma.

If learners decide to upgrade from an Award to a Certificate at the same level colleges will only need to pay the difference in registration fees.

ATHE has 20 large Diplomas, 14 of which are 120 credits and 6 of which are 60 credit.

These Diplomas are suitable for learners who wish to develop a well-rounded understanding of the core management concepts.

They are also suitable for those learners who wish to progress to university to study a top-up degree.

Each unit within a Diploma can be delivered separately and be awarded to learners as a separate achievement. This is useful for maximising the use of classroom time and teaching resources, as it allows learners from different qualifications to be taught together where units are common across both qualifications.

It also allows colleges to promote each unit as a short course, which is popular for both part-time learners and the corporate market.

Certificates and Awards We have 24 small qualifications that are suitable for those who wish to upgrade their skills and knowledge in a particular aspect of management.
