1 SCOPE AND PURPOSE

This standard has worldwide applicability for all product design divisions of ContinentalAutomotive Systems which create / change master data sheets, drawings, 3D-models,parts lists and are using SAP-PLM.The release and change rules for standards and specifications are defined in a separateATE standard.

This guideline only controls the processes involved in releasing / changing productdocuments. It does not apply to changes of production facilities, production plans, EDPdata, measuring means, operators manuals and the like which such releases / changesnecessarily entail.

Together with ATE N 101 02.03 und 101 02.04, the present guideline describes definitionsand entries of release and change notes in engineering drawings, the master data sheet,the parts list and, if applicable, for 3D-models.

2 GENERAL

The legally binding product description is represented by the master data sheet with the 2Ddrawing, the parts lists, if applicable, further documents and, if applicable, a 3D-model. In order to document the processes involved in designing a product, we distinguishbetween new releases, upgrades / downgrades, changes, early warnings of forthcomingchanges and special deviations. The exact definitions and procedures are defined in OA14/72 and supplemented in the ATE N 101 12.XX series.

The prescribed procedures must generally be observed for all types of releases andchanges. Unauthorized changes by design or production departments which disregard theprescribed work flow are forbidden.

All changes in the documents shall be implemented such that only the new state can bediscerned. This applies, in particular, to geometrical changes. The old representation shallbe canceled accordingly.

Documents (master data sheet, drawing, 3D-model, parts list) bearing the same documentnumber must have the same release and change level. Their contents must not conflict witheach other. This means that if a 3D-model exists, then the drawing must always be derivedfrom the 3D-model.

The separation into master data list, drawing and 3D-model shall be based on VDA 4953.The data in the systems rather than the printouts on paper shall be considered to be theoriginal. Apart from administrative data, the master data sheet, being the higher rankingdocument, shall also contain all data managed in the systems, such as material, tolerancingprinciple etc. To avoid redundancies, this data will then no longer appear on the drawing.This separation also paves the way for replacing the drawing by a fully described 3D-model.

A release / change shall be considered to take effect at the time at which it is signed by theresponsible person authorized to grant the release.

The work flow of a release / change distinguishes between publication by the administrationdepartment and publication by the design department. For further information please referto ATE N 101 12.30 / .31/ .32.

Every new release, upgrade / downgrade is a special form of a change because it requiresan entry in the release fields (= change of the data record) even for an upgrade with nochange of contents, for example. The long-term archival of the documentation of allchanges and new releases is described in ATE N101 12.36 (still under preparation at thetime of publication of this standard).Changes to products and their documents always affect production and the procurement ofcomponent parts, render inventories obsolete, delay the delivery of the products and spareparts and jeopardize their readiness for operation.Changes should therefore only be made - if the safety and usability of the product would be in jeopardy without the changeor/and- the proposed change permits costs to be reduced without sacrificing quality and

function.Changes shall always be restricted to a minimum.

Changes shall be requested, implemented and documented on the appropriate SAP-PLMforms. In divisions which are not yet using SAP-PLM, the forms will be made available inanother form suitable for data processing.

The term item code (subject number) used internally within the company up until now isreplaced by the terms document number and material number. This distinction has becomenecessary with the introduction of SAP-PLM because some program flows exclusively referto the document while others exclusively refer to the material / part.

4 REQUEST FOR RELEASE / CHANGE

New releases, upgrades / downgrades of design stages and desired changes of alldepartments of Continental Automotive Systems shall be requested by submitting specialrequest forms from SAP_PLM to the release function of the respective design site. Theprocedure initiated thereby ensures that the work flow for releases and changes will beobserved. Like all affected documents, the release / change request approved by theaffected design and production divisions will be documented with legally binding effect.

A change request must also be filed for correcting product documents as well as spellingand symbol errors. If the cause of a request is a wish expressed by a customer rather thandesign deficiencies of our products, then the sales department and the responsiblecustomer project manager shall endeavor to reach an agreement with the customer on theresulting action and cost.

5 CHECK FOR MULTIPLE USE OF PARTS

Each change shall be preceded by a check to determine if the part to be changed is alsoused in other products and if the existing design is still required for replacement purposes.Changes of a component part frequently entail changes of unmachined parts, parts of thesame or neighboring group, subgroup or the general drawing. In such cases, all affecteddocuments shall be changed at the same time. Each change shall be described in thechange request. If parts occur in several groups or products, then all affected master datasheets, drawings, 3D-models and parts lists of the other groups or products shall bechanged as well.

6 QUALIFICATION FOR CHANGE

Changes may only be made in order to correct design errors, improve the part or reducecosts.One-time production errors must not lead to changes. These can be remedied by a specialdeviation in accordance with QV 13.02.

6.1 Permissible changes

- Corrections - Design changes to component parts, groups and products entailing a change of form

and/or function and, thus, a change of the associated documentation (3D-models,drawings, parts lists, process sheets etc.)

- Replacement of functional elements or assemblies - Quantity changes - Structural changes, such as changes to the structure of parts lists / assemblies

- Data technology changes, such as importation into another CAD system (CATIA V4 toCATIA V5) or another mod. dimension etc.

6.2 Illegal changes

Rework and touch-ups as unplanned, scrap-avoiding activities. The correct procedure forsuch activities is a special deviation.

6.3 Interchangeability

Every change also requires a check for interchangeability of the part to be changed.The term part as used below shall be understood to cover component parts, i.e. individualparts, as well as joined parts and assemblies. See also ATE N 101 02.03.According to the principle of Form, Fit and Function (FFF), a part is interchangeable if: - it can replace another part (Form)

- no further components have to be changed (Fit)

- no additional operations are necessary on other parts during assembly (Fit)

- No other connecting elements are required (Function)- the function remains unchanged (Function)

6.4 Effects of the change on the document number

Details of handling changes, in particular as to whether a new document number must beassigned or if the existing document can be changed are described in ATE N 101 02.03.

To groups, a new document number shall only be assigned in the event of substantialchanges to the quantity and number structure and if the group or its component parts is/areno longer interchangeable.

The number need not be changed if interchangeability in accordance with para. 6.3 above isensured and the further conditions defined in ATE N 101 02.03 are met.

Changes in master data sheets, drawings, CAD-models and parts lists shall be identified bymeans of change indexes (revision numbers) and documented with the change (revision)level, see ATE N 101 02.04.

6.5 Disposal and inventory

In order to make sure that the effects of the change on inventory will be duly taken intoaccount, a disposal must be specified for the changed part. The disposal shall be enteredvia SAP-PLM. To permit this, the change must be identified as an object change. The disposal shall be entered as a code number for each part to be changed in a separatecolumn of the change request and may be supplemented with text. The meanings of thecode numbers are defined in ATE N 101 02.03.

7 DEFINITIONENS OF RELEASE / CHANGE ENTRIES ON A DOCUMENT

Only the latest release level / change shall be entered in the document. There are threetypes of entries.

DV = Document Version, indicates the current version of the document

MI = Material Index, indicates the current change level of the material/part

FR = Release (Freigabe), indicates the current release level (design maturity) of amaterial/part

Each entry consists of the 2-digit index, the release / change code, the site code and therelease / folder number in accordance with ATE N 102 00.05 plus date and initials of theperson granting the release. For examples see ATE N 101 02.04.

7.1 Definition of document version (DV)The document version identifies all changes which refer to the document. As each changeof a material/part entails a change in the document, the index of the document version DVwill be automatically raised by one whenever a material/part is changed.

Changes which have no effect on production, such as formal changes F23 (spelling errorswhich must be corrected etc.) also raise the DV index.A formal change does not entail an object change in SAP. Consequently, only thedocument version will be raised by one. The material index remains unchanged and, thus,informs the production department that this change has no effects on production.

7.2 Definition of material index (MI)The material index MI identifies all changes which refer to the material/part. This may be ageometrical change or a material, treatment or surface change, but in any case a changewhich is relevant for production. In SAP-PLM, a new material index is initiated byidentifying the change as an object change. An appropriate disposal must then beentered as well.

7.3 Definition of release level (FR)The release level reflects the design maturity of a unit. It also identifies the current coststructure of the unit.The release process, on the other hand, is a work flow which may concern both a changeand a release level.

Several change processes can be carried out within one release level. The possiblecombinations are listed in a table in ATE N 101 02.04.

Release level Meaning (extract from ATE N 101 12.33)

F00 Unit is illegal, no longer produced

F04 Design level of the units for CAS tests, but without customer-specificdevelopment

F45 Advance notification of customer.

F05 Development status for the manufacture of samples for testing purposes andfor submission to customer.

F55 Permits the design of serial production units in the absence of a customerrelease. Permits the design of production facilities.

F06 Procuement of production facilities and machines(Customer release required).

F07 Permits the design and production of a pilot run with a limited quantity forcustomers (customer release is on file).

F08 Full production release without any restrictions.

Note:

In a document set to be released, the same release level and the same process numbermust be entered in all master data sheets, drawings, 3D-models and parts lists for the unitsto be released. Duplicate parts (component parts which occur in more than one unit) whichhave already been released must have the same or a higher release level. This also appliesto all references.

7.4 Definition of type of change

The type of change is indicative of the release level as well as the priority of the changeunder the aspect of possible cost.

Type of change Meaning

F04 Drawing changes within release level F04.

F45 Drawing changes in the event of an upgrade to F45 or within releaselevel F45.



F21 Urgent changes without prior estimation. Only permissible for releaselevels F06/F07/F08.

F22 Changes with estimation and approval. Only permissible for releaselevels F06/F07/F08.

F23 Formal changes without effect on production or costs. Only permissiblefor release levels F06/F07/F08.

F28 New release* / pure upgrade or downgrade of the release level withouttechnical, content-related or formal change of the part / documentexcept for identification with the latest release level in the text field;applicable for all release levels, starting with F04.Also applicable if the CAD system is changed (e.g. from CATIA V4 toCATIA V5) without technical, content-related or formal changes.

The site code consists of three letters and identifies the design site / the authorization groupwhere the release/change took place.

7.6 Process number

The process or notification number (in SAP-PLM: folder number) in accordance withATE N 102 00.05 enables the release/change process to be filed such that it can beretrieved. All release / change levels shall be documented in this manner in order to permitall releases and changes to be traced at all times.

7.7 Identification of the progress of work

7.7.1 In Document Info Set (DIS)In the PLM system, the progress of work in a current process is identified by means of 2letters.

AA Work request. Release/change planned.

IA In work. A part / assembly is being processed.

AE Change request. The change / release folder was returned to the person filing therequest on account of errors.

FA Release request. The part /assembly is to be released, but has not yet beenreleased.

FR Released. The part / assembly has been released and may be used accordingly.

SP Blocked. The part / assembly has been barred and is, thus, invalid and may nolonger be used. The entry will be displayed in the PLM system, but the documentcan no longer be opened.

7.7.2 In the release / change folder

The progress of work in a release / change folder shall be identified by means of 2numerals.

Notes shall be entered in the release fields if drawings are plotted which have not beenreleased. For examples see ATE N 101 02.04.

8 RELEASE / CHANGE ENTRIES AND DISTRIBUTION

Entries in the release / change field and distribution of technical documents are normallytaken care of by the technical administration function.For a design release in accordance with ATE N 101 12.30 and .31, these entries shall bemade by the design department in accordance with the rules of the system. The separatelydepicted distribution list in accordance with ATE N 101 05.00 contains all departments andpersons who must be informed about the change / release.

9 SPECIAL CASES

9.1 Replacing a document by a new one

If an existing master data sheet, drawing, parts list, 3D-model is to be replaced by a newdocument, then the document number of the old document shall be entered in the fieldERSATZ FUER / SUBSTITUTE FOR. in the DIS of the PLM system. The criteria defined inATE N 101 02.03 must be observed.

9.2 Entry of parts to which a document number can only be assigned in a later designstage

This is only possible in conjunction with the CAD system CATIA V4 and should preferablybe avoided in the future because such an entry precludes an IMDS check.

In such cases, the document number 84.4711-0815.0 may be used as dummy. Thisdocument number must be replaced by a real document number with the F06 release at thelatest.An F06 release with the document number 84.4711-0815.0 is not permitted.In order to directly identify the dummy as such, its description reads as follows:

F04 WITHOUT DRAWING T.B.D.

The future description may be written in the remarks column of the parts list and must bedeleted again when the original part has been entered.

9.3 Date of creation of a document

For reasons inherent in the system, a change or upgrade entails a change of theinformation relating to the creator of the drawing.

Date, name and department will be automatically updated to reflect the latest status. Thedate of first creation of a drawing can only be determined via the documentation.

9.4 Change request

The change request shall be filled out via SAP-PLM.

9.5 Standard and catalog parts

For all standard and catalog parts, material / document numbers exist which can be used inparts lists. New standard and catalog parts shall be filed with Central Standards togetherwith the necessary specifications so that corresponding document numbers can beassigned. The change work flow is identical with that for production parts.

10 DOCUMENTATION OF THE RELEASE / CHANGE

10.1 Documents describing parts

Up until now, microcards have been used for documentation and long-term archival. Themarking of microcards and its meaning is described in ATE N 101 02.04.The current optoelectronic method permits all archived technical documents to be retrievedvia SAP-PLM in accordance with their release / change level. The necessary identifying datais automatically provided by the system.

10.2 Administrative documents

All administrative documents required for a release or change are managed as PDFdocuments in SAP-PLM in document type ECD or ECP (if the release is published by thedesign department). Scanning the signed documents into the system affords the necessarylegal protection for executing the complete release and change process by EPD methods.
