Starbucks is currently deploying their next
generation espresso machine. This machine
will make the perfect espresso, faster and
easier, enabling the barista to connect more
with customers and provide excellent service.
Out of the box, however, there was no way to
capture and analyze the machine’s data. This
means an on-site tech was needed whenever
there were updates, new recipes, or
maintenance. Licensed and franchise stores
had to trust the security of WI-FI that was out
of their control. This was a slow and expensive
process.
Microsoft’s IoT Hub solution, combined with the Azure Sphere Security Service in the Azure Sphere guardian module provides complete, end-to-end, highly secure solution.
By utilizing AT&T’s Global SIM with AT&T Control Center, Starbucks would be able to deploy pre-provisioned guardian modules to AT&T’s cellular network, with no need to reconfigure the in-store WI-FI network. The cellular guardian module can let Starbucks securely connect their equipment globally to their private cloud.
By working with AT&T as the global leader in cellular IoT, Microsoft could be able to provide a true global cellular solution to power Azure Sphere guardian modules within Starbucks stores, thus unlocking the full potential of Microsoft Azure IoT to over 16,000 licensed stores.
And by doing so, Starbucks can improve their cost structure, simplify operations, and provide outstanding customer service.
