    2 Introduction

    The comfort elevator door driver AT18 is an intelligent door driver with which cabin and shaftdoors can be operated with adjustable speed and acceleration settings. The maintenance-freepower unit consists of a DC-motor with non-self-locking gears and is operated speed-controlled. Thepower transmission takes place with a timing chain. The timing chain is fed through an overhead

    pulley and can be equipped with two door clutch holders. With it both one-sided and doors openingin the centre can be powered.

    The AT18 is supplied with the following motors:M 4V /1.8A Motor for a maximum of 10 kg total door panel weightM3 30V /4.0A motor for a maximum of 180 kg total door panel weight

    The door actuator can be ordered with drive pinions mounted differently (left or right, see drawingin attachment).No end switch is needed for the operation of the door actuator.The door width as well as the positions OPEN and CLOSE are determined automatically.A display of the current operating statuses takes place via a 7-segment display (H5000) in thecontrol unit.In the attachment all important scale drawings, an assembly suggestion and the identicationnumbers for the order of the individual drive components can be found.

    4 Terminology

    Initial speed = reduced speed after recognition of mains activation in closing and opening directionuntil normal operation.

    Creep speed = reduced speed in the vicinity of the OPEN position of the elevator door (creep

    distance).Cutter speed = reduced speed in the vicinity of the CLOSE position of the elevator door (cutterdistance).

    Creep distance = door movement area in the vicinity of the OPEN position.

    Cutter distance = door movement area in the vicinity of the CLOSE position.

    6 Functions and equipment reactions

    6.1 Teach-in and test driveBy pushing of the button DOOR PARAM (S5000) the automatic determination has taken place:1. Recognition of the motor type.

    . Recognition of the direction of the door movement and of the CLOSE

    position.3. Determination of the friction values of the door system and of the door weight.4. Determination of the door width and of the OPEN position. Closing of the door until thedetermined door width has been travelled through and the CLOSE position has been reached.There the storing of the parameter, lasting 3 seconds, takes place.

    6.2 DOOR OPEN instructionAt the DOOR OPENinstruction the door opens according to the set movement cycle, as long as theinstruction remains.The transitions of the movement cycle (e.g. from acceleration to a steady condition) are chamferedto avoid noises, which could result from the play between the cabin and shaft door. The doorreaches the OPEN position at creep speed. Thereafter the door is kept open with reduced torque atthe DOOR OPENinstruction in queue.

    The DOOR OPEN instruction must stay in queue during the complete opening movement. The DOOR OPEN instruction must stay in queue continuously if a permanent

    torque is pending. The DOOR OPEN instruction has priority over all other control instructions.

    6.3 DOOR CLOSE instructionFor the closing of the door the DOOR CLOSE instruction should remain in queue continuously.After closing the door is held closed with reduced torque for as long as the DOOR CLOSEinstruction is in queue.

    6.4 Service buttonsWith the service buttons OPEN (S5001) and CLOSE (S5002) the door can be opened and closedby the control unit. By pushing this button the controls receive the DOOR OPEN, or DOOR CLOSE,instruction in addition to the input signals in queue to X6.

    6.5 Parameter settingThe AT18 terminal module (option), the user terminal HT18 or the AT Frontend PC offers additionalconguration and diagnosis possibilities.The terminal module is integrated in the housing of the AT18 control unit and can be orderedtogether or can also be tted afterwards.The user terminal HT18 is as additional option separately obtainable.

    It is connected to X8 of the control unit.A possibly available user terminal of type HT 5 can also be used.The Frontend PC offers the most comfortable diagnosis possibility.Hereto a PC can be connected to X8 of the control unit via the USB adapter(accessory AT Frontend PC).

    NOTICEThe current parameter is overwritten by the factory parameter at the end of the teach-in drive,exactly when the door parameter button (S5000) is pushed at the application of the mains power. Ifthe door parameter button is pushed during running operation, then only a door width and weightdetermination take place. The movement cycle parameter, force margins and permanent torqueremain as is. The maximum closing speed, as well as the nudge speed, is limited depending on thedetermined weight.

    6.6 Blockage recognition CLOSEIf the door is blocked in the CLOSE direction at a DOOR CLOSE instruction in queue, it stopsand reverses. After reaching the open position the door closes again with normal speed up toapproximately cm in front of the obstacle. Subsequently it moves with reduced speed (initialspeed) against the obstacle and reverses again.This action is repeated continuously for as long as the obstacle remains. After removing the obstaclethe door moves with reduced speed approximately cm past the stored position of the obstacle andthen continues the rest of the way at normal closing speed.

    6.7 Blockage recognition OPENIf the door is blocked in the OPEN direction at a DOOR OPEN instruction, it stops. Afterapproximately s the door tries automatically to reach the opening position.This action is repeated maximally 3 times.The door then remains in this position.If the DOOR OPEN instruction is cancelled, the closing instruction given in the meantime, andthen the DOOR OPEN instruction is given again, the door will move at normal speed up toapproximately cm in front of the stored position of the obstacle and subsequently with reducedspeed against the obstacle.Here the door actuator stops and repeats the opening controls 3 times. If the obstacle is removedbeforehand, then the door moves with reduced speed approximately cm past the stored blockage

    position and resumes to the opening position at normal speed.

    6.8 Restart after power failureAfter a mains power failure the nal positions of the door must be newly determined from the doorcontrols.For that purpose the door moves for so long at a reduced speed (initial speed) until the two nalpositions Open and Close have been recognised by the controls.

    6.9 Closing forceThe closing force can be set for motor (4V/1.8A, up to 10 kg door weight) at between 70 and10N, or for motor 3 (30V/4A, up to 180 kg door weight) at between 70 and 30 N. At exceedingof 150N a warning message appears on the LCD display of the terminal module (option). The valuesmentioned refers to one-sided opening doors: a load cell will display only half the value at doorsopening in the middle.

    WARNINGAt the setting of the closing force it is imperative that a possibly effective closing weight is takeninto account. Per 1kg counterweight the closing force must be reduced by 10N.This concerns the: - Closing force CLOSE

    - Closing force Cutter distance CLOSE- Nudge force CLOSE

    Example: Closing weight = 4 kgDesired static force margin CLOSE = 150 N

    The counterweight of 4 kg represents a force of 40 N. The force margin to be set must then amount

    to 150N 40 N = 110 N.

    The factory setting is designed in such a way that a counterweight of 3 kg for motor (4V/1.8A),or 6kg for motor 3 (30V/4A), was taken into account. That means that the resulting static closingforce is limited to 10 N, or 90 N.

    6.10 Emergency rescue

    WARNING

    An emergency rescue can only be effected if:- neither a DOOR OPEN nor a DOOR CLOSED instruction is in queue- he service button has not been pushed- the user terminal or AT Frontend PC does not show the menu item quick

    adjustment or overall adjustment (including sub-menus).- the door has come to a standstill

    Only in these cases the door actuator is torque-free. The necessary force to openthe door according to TRA and EN81 stipulations lies below 300N.

    6.11 NudgeReversing does not take place in the operating status NUDGE. The DOOR CLOSE and NUDGE

    instructions must be in queue at the same time. At the recognition of an obstacle the torque istaken back to 1 second on the marginal keeping shut torque of the motor.

    6.12 Light barrierThe input for the light barrier signal has the same function as the DOOR OPEN instruction.Exception: if the door is opened at less than 1 cm, the light barrier signal is ignored.If no power is available at the light barrier input, this is interpreted as an interruption of the lightbarrier.The door can then not close.At an interrupted light barrier the door opens. If a DOOR CLOSE instruction is in queue at the sametime, the door only moves in the OPEN direction for as long as the light beam is interrupted.

    6.13 Emergency power supply (optional)In case of a mains power supply a battery or rechargeable battery (e.g. lead-acid rechargeablebattery) can be connected to the external emergency power module (option) and thereby makeemergency operation possible.The door can be opened and closed in this condition, the light barrier input is utilised. The travelspeed over the total travelling distance is thereby reduced to the values stored in the proleparameters for the cutter speeds OPEN and CLOSE.When the mains power supply is available again, the control unit automatically switches back tonormal operation in the nal setting of the door (OPEN or CLOSE).

    CAREFULThe circuit breaker for the emergency power supply to be installed onsite must have the delayed-action value of 6A.

    6.14 Overload protectionIf the door actuator is heavily subjected to regular DOOR OPEN and DOOR CLOSE instructionsfollowing closely upon each other, then an increase of the holding open time automatically kicks in.The next closing movement is

    7 Mechanical assembly and conguration

    CAREFULSafe operation of the elevator door actuator requires that it is properly assembled and put intooperation by qualied staff, with due attention to the warning notices of this operating manual.Before all work on the door actuator it is to be ensured that the controls are without power.

    Only then is an immobility of the door guaranteed. The mechanical assembly and setting of theelevator door actuator takes place in the following steps:

    1. Mount the motor on the motor mounting (rubber-bonded metal/vibration shockmount). Thereafter the motor is mounted on the mounting bracket if necessary.

    . Mount the overhead pulley, if necessary with mounting bracket. Make sure of thealignment of the drive pinion and the overhead pulley; these should be aligned witheach other as precisely as possible.

    3. Bolt the timing chain and the door clutch holder together and set it up.

    NOTICEUse the door clutch holder (timing chain lock) as described in the attachment exclusively! Throughan improper fastening a notch effect can be effected on the timing chain, which can lead to thedestruction of the timing chain! The door clutch holder (timing chain lock) may not run through thepinion drive or the overhead pulley!

    4. Tighten the timing chain with the aid of the tensioning device. The correcttension is achieved when the timing chain can be pushed in by approximately 3 cmper every meter distance in the middle between the drive pinion and the overheadpulley.

    5. Mount the control unit close to the drive motor(take length of cable into account).

    6. Mount the transformer close to the control unit

    (take length of cable into account).

    CAREFULIn case of a fault or a short circuit of the outlet cable of the transformer the housing temperaturecan rise to above 105 C.Because of this the transformer may only be mounted on surfaces, where no danger of combustionexists and touching by unauthorised persons is not possible.The service staff should be notied of this fact.

    8 Electrical conguration and putting into operation

    WARNINGWhen in use parts of electrical devices inevitably are subject to dangerous voltage currents.Non-observance of the operating instructions can therefore lead to severe bodily harm or damageto property.

    It is imperative that the warning notices should be observed.During the putting into operation of the controls (especially at the automatic parameterdetermination) the door movement cannot always be inuenced from outside. The light barrier isnot active during the teach-in drive.It should therefore be ensured by an authorised person, who stands at the door, that no otherperson comes near the elevator door during the putting into operation. The acceptable forces andenergies on the complete system (elevator) should be tested by service staff after the putting intooperation of the elevator door.

    NOTICEAt the parameter teach-in drive the motor temperature may not lie below 0 C, otherwise the valueof the door weight is determined incorrectly and the closing speed and nudge speed can be in arange not allowed.

    1. Push door in CLOSE position.. Open housing lid.3. Plug in motor plug X7.

    NOTICESo that no uncontrolled trips are started during the putting into operation, the plug X6 for thecontrol inlets is not plugged in.

    4. Connect mains current transformer with mains (30V AC). The onsite circuit breaker mayamount to a maximum of 10A.

    5. Press the red DOOR PARAMbutton (S5000) and keep pushed in.6. Connect outlet of mains current transformer to X3.7. Press red DOOR PARAMbutton (S5000) so long

    until the 7-segment display (H5000) displays _.8. After a short pressing of the OPEN (S5001) or CLOSEbutton (S5002) the teach-in trip is

    started. The 7-segment display (H5000) displays H.The teach-in trip includes an approximately 10 cm wide opening and closing at creep speedonce or twice.Subsequently an opening and closing once over 5 cm at creep speed follows for the ..determination of the friction of the door system.

    Thereafter the door opens and closes at reduced speed (complete trip). Herewith a shortadditional acceleration incline is passedthrough at the opening after an approximately 10 cm trip to determine the door weight.The door parameter and the detected door width are stored in the CLOSEposition.The 7-segment display (H5000) displays u.

    9. The door can now be opened with the OPENbutton (S5001).The 7-segment display (H5000) displays o during the opening.

    10. Switch off control by pulling of the mains plug or of plug X3.

    11. Connect control signals to plug X6 as in the terminal circuit diagram (see attachment 9).1. Connect the light barrier to X6 (see terminal circuit diagram in attachment).

    Insofar as the light barrier input is not used, X6 must be wired to X4 according to the lines onthe connection layout.

    13. Plug in clip plugs X6 and X4.

    CAREFULThe control is operative after the next switch-on. At a presented control signal the door moves intothe specied direction.

    14. Switch control on (plug in mains current plug, or plug X3).The four LEDs next to the plug-in connector X3 indicate which control signal is active at thetime. Thereby the LED for the light barrier should glow continuously, if there is no obstacle inthe movement area of the door.

    15. At a presented control signal CLOSEthe door closes with the initial speed in the CLOSEposition. At a presented control signal OPENthe door opens with the initial speed in theOPENposition.

    16. If the control has recognized the nal door positions OPENand CLOSE, the subsequent

    opening and closing movements are performed at normal speed.

    WARNINGThe service staff should test the acceptable energies and forces after the putting into operationof the elevator door on the heaviest door in the complete system (elevator) and to adjust it to thecritical limits in case of an exceeding of the values.Gear reduction, or transmissions to the timing chains are not allowed, because the kinetic energiesor static forces on the door can be changed thereby.The door width is then no longer valid.

    NOTICEThe activation of the door movement in the OPENor CLOSEdirection can also take place with theservice button S5001 (OPEN) and S5002 (CLOSE).These buttons lie parallel to the OPEN and CLOSE signals, which are positioned at X6.To reach the nal position of the door, the respective button must be pushed continuously,otherwise the door is stopped.At a pressing of the OPENand CLOSEbuttons at the same time, or positioning of the OPENandCLOSEsignals at the same time, the door always moves in the OPENdirection.By using the user terminal or the AT Frontend PC the external input signals are blocked in somemenus.

    The storing of the learned parameters are taken over in the CLOSEposition exclusively.

    17. For special applications the movement values can be specically adapted to the door.However, for that the terminal module (option) must be installed or the user terminal HT18(HT_5) must be connected.Instead of the user terminal a PC can also be connected via a USB adapter, which can beobtained as special accessory, on which the operating program (AT Frontend) has beenstarted. The operation is described in the instructions in the attachment.

    9 The Relay Contacts (Option)

    The relay contacts are situated on the relay module (option) and can be utilised to report thefollowing door statuses to the elevator control of a higher order:

    X11

    The door has reached the CLOSEposition. The relay switches on when the controls recognisedthe CLOSEposition and the pulse generator gives no impulse any more, in other words the doorstands still. Pin 3 is then connected to Pin 1 until the DOOR OPENinstruction is given. The relaythen drops again immediately and Pin 3 is connected to Pin again.

    X12The door reverses.The relay switches on when the door reverses due to a blockage, a light barrier interruption oran opening instruction for example. Pin 1 is then connected to Pin 3 until the OPENposition isreached.

    X13The door has reached the OPENposition. The relay switches on when the current distance of thedoor to the OPENposition is less than cm. Pin 1 and Pin 3 are then connected.If the distance of cm is exceeded again the relay drops immediately and Pin 3 is connected to Pin2 again.

    In the Overview of the Operating Elements the contacts are always presented in the (inactive)status of the relay without power. In addition the active status is displayed with an LED on theswitching relay.

    WARNING

    The door control unit is not a safety mechanism. The relay contacts may therefore not be used forthe safety circuit of the elevator.When the housing lid is opened only low safety voltage (voltage lower than 4V) may be present.At a connection of higher voltage (maximum 30V AC) to the relay module the protective coverprovided for it must be used. Thereby the following has to be observed:Connected wires must be suitable for the voltage in use and have an appropriate insulation (doubleor reinforced insulation). Recommended are cables with a circumference of 6mm to 7mm. Insidethe cover the single-insulated single wires must be removed a minimum of 5mm from the cable endand be connected as short as possible to the clip plugs X11 (CLOSE signal) andX13 (OPEN signal).The wires must be secured inside the plastic cover against pulling out. A cable tie, which has been

    pulled tightly around the cable, prevents the cable from being pulled through the oval openingof the relay cover (see photo ). The cable tie must be applied in such a way that a minimum of5mm of the outer cable jacket is inside the protective cover. Components of the controls and theconnecting cable, such as the motor plug and its wires may only come in contact with the additional(or reinforced) insulation of the current-carrying wires.Currents from different networks (e.g. 4V and 30V) may NOT be connected to the relay module.

    12 Speed limit cycle

    The speed limit cycle is the characteristic for the determination of the maximum acceptable doorspeed Vmax, depending on the total door panel weight. According to EN 81 the maximum kineticenergy of the door in the closing direction may not exceed 10 joules. WKIN = 1/2 m v = 10 J.Example from the following speed limit cycle:

    Total door panel weight m = 180 kg => Vmax

    = 0,33 m/s.

    13.2 The emergency power module

    The emergency power module is connected between the transformer and the power inlet of thecontrol unit AT18 (plug connector X3)(see photo 11).This module carries out the switchover of the power supply from the transformer to the 4Vemergency power supply (rechargeable battery) in case of a power failure.At the switchover the controls receive the instruction (plug connector X5) to reduce the door speedto initial speed, so that the connected rechargeable batteries are not discharged too much.

    15.12 Attachment 12: AT tool package

    15.12.1 Installation AT tool package

    For installation description of the AT tool package see CD insert, or PDF le on the installation CD

    15.12.3 AT AT Frontend PC

    TheAT Frontend PCis started via the start menu AT Tool Package -> AT Frontend PC or via thedesktop link AT Frontend PC.

    At the start of the program the control unit AT18 is being searched for automatically to establishcommunication. If the control unit AT18 is not recognised automatically, the Establish connectionto AT button can be pressed. If thereafter still no communication has been established, pleasesee the help description. In order for the communication to be established successfully the AT USBadapter must be connected to the USB port of the PC.

    In addition the control unit AT18 must be connected to the ATUSB adapter via the 9-pin connectorcable. The control unit AT18 must be switched on, otherwise only the movement cycle editor can beselected.

    After start-up of the program AT Frontend PC the following window appears on the monitor whenthe communication has been established successfully. On the title page the rmware version of theconnected control unit is also displayed.

    Via the user terminal emulation the user terminal HT18 is simulated. The operation and menuguide corresponds to the HT18 (see description HT18 15.11).

    15.12.4 Movement cycle editor

    At the start of the movement cycle editor the control unit AT18 automatically selects the parameterif a communication has been established.

    All adjustable parameters can be loaded in the movement cycle editor, adjusted comfortably andstored again. The loading as well as storing of parameters can take place in the control unit AT18and also in a text le on the PC. This way it is possible to use movement cycles stored on the PC forthe putting into operation of another similar elevator door.

    For this purpose the following buttons are provided:

    Via the Select prole window an appropriate prole (1 6) can be selected and activated. Theproles are stored on the control unit AT18.

    Via the Movement instructions window the input signals of the AT18 can be simulated and theelevator door moved according to the push buttons.

    The clicking of a movement cycle value on the left of the editor menu (illustration 14) results inthis value being marked on the right in the illustrated movement cycle. Likewise the clicking of an

    incline or of another movement value in the movement cycle diagram results in the marking of thevalue belonging to it in the parameter list and therefore can easily be found.

    The changing of a value directly inuences the presented form of the movement cycle. As an aid,attention is drawn to the setting limits of the current parameters in the top right window, as well asto their exceeding.

    The newly set parameters is transferred to the control unit AT18 by pressing the Store parameterin AT button.

    Going out of the movement cycle editor takes place via the Main menu button.

    WARNINGIn order for the closing speed and nudge speed to be limited depending on the door weight, it isimperative that a new teach-in drive (start with button S5000) be made after taking over anotherprole.

    15.12.5 Oscilloscope function

    With the aid of the oscilloscope function its is possible to record the door speed and the distancedone in a time window of 60 seconds (single record) or continuously (permanent record).

    Via the zoom function an area of the time axis can be enlarged in the big diagram window. Forthat purpose the desired display area is entered into the Zoom eld or the area to be enlargedis selected per mouse-click in the record window. With the left mouse button the starting point isentered and with the right mouse button the end point of the zoom area. The selected distance ishighlighted with a brighter background colour and presented enlarged in the big window.

    Via the Conguration button (illustration 18) the standard for the travel and the recorded speedcan be set. Via the Store zoom data button the determined measurements can be deposited in ale (CSV le). Going out of the oscilloscope takes place via the Main menu button.

    15.13 Electrical conguration with the minimal editor

    The minimal editor is an aid with which to make changes to a control unit AT18 when the terminalmodule, the user module or the AT Frontend PC is not available. Thereby the parameter button(S5000) and the two service buttons (S5001, S500) are assigned a double function. The LEDdisplay (H5000) enables the visualisation of messages. The activation of the minimal editor requiresa special pressing of the keys, which can only be done after resetting the network.The detailed requirement reads as follows:a) At the start of the program (switch on of the mains current) the OPEN and CLOSE keys must be

    pressed at the same time. As conrmation an 8 is displayed (duration approximately 5 seconds).b) As soon as the display stops the operator must let go of both keys (time window approximately

    3 seconds) and leave alone until the end of the time window.c) As conrmation of the successful activation of the minimal editor only a C is displayed.

    The minimal editor makes two setting possible, on the one hand the selection of a xed prole andon the other the joint setting of the closing forces.The setting of a value takes place with the service buttons (S5001, S5002), the acceptance of a leby a long pressing of the (> s) of the parameter button (S5000).

    The saving that took place is conrmed by the display of a dot on the LED display.A short pressing of the parameter button merely switches to the other parameter without changingthe respective value.The display of a value takes place by the interchanging display of the identication letter (A forforces in the closing direction and C for the selection of the prole) and of the values in the formof a number.At the conguration of the prole values between 1 and 6 can be set (1 for standard prole and 6for prole no. 6).The closing forces are set in the form of a counterweight, whereby, simplied, 1kg to 10N iscalculated.Input can take place from 1 to 6, whereby 0 represents no counterweight and 6 represents 6kg

    counterweight.The input of the counterweight inuences the closing forces as it is deducted form the maximumvalue 150N.In this way the setting 6 brings about the reduction of the closing forces to 90N (150N 60N =90N) while at setting 0 the maximum closing force of 150N becomes active.By the switching off and on again of the power supply you go out of the minimal editor again.

    WARNINGSo that the closing speed and the nudge speed can be limited depending on the door weight, it is

    imperative that a new teach-in drive (start with button S5000) be undertaken after taking over ofanother prole.

    WARNINGThe selection of a prole overwrites the input of a counterweight. Therefore the value for thecounterweight (parameter C) must be set last.
