MUNICIPAL NEWS

WORD OF THE MAYORLake Beattie Park ProjectFollowing questions from severalresidents regarding the Lake Beattie Park, here is an update on the project. We areextremely enthusiastic about this greatproject and have made headway in gettingthe park open for the summer of 2018. Inaddition to filing several requests forgrants from the government, we also helda residents’ meeting to discuss short, medium and long term goals for ourfuture park.

Our vision and goals for the Lake BeattiePark are: to provide public access to a lakewith water activities for all residents(including non-motorized boat rentals),provide access to a place for families topractice outdoor activities, create fishingactivities for young people and families, build picnic and camping sites (medium-term) and create multifunctional trails(hiking, snowshoeing, mountain biking,cross-country skiing). We will work withresidents to develop trails and parkactivities.

There is no nature park such as the one weare developing in all of Argenteuil. Thispark will be foremost for our residentsand for the residents of Lachute. We hopeto host day camps in a few years, to allowchildren from our region to discovernature, get to know it and learn how toprotect it.

By protecting the lake and the 260ha thatmake up the park, we are ensuring thelongevity of this unique natural arealocated on the borders of Lachute.

The municipal team will keep youinformed as the project progresses. We areaiming for the Park to officially open thisyear! As soon as the thaw permits, we willstart working on the site. We cannot waitto welcome you to the Lake Beattie Park.

As usual, you can send me yourcomments, suggestions or questions byemail at [email protected] orby phone at 514 941-2224. I will be happyto discuss it with you. Thank you.

Your mayor,Scott Pearce

BIRDHOUSES IN THEMUNICIPALITY WITHORNITHOLOGICAL DEVELOP -MENT ARGENTEUIL (DOA)Several bird nest boxes have been set upon various interesting sites in theTownship of Gore to become part of theArgenteuil Birdhouse Network (ABN).These nest boxes are intended to providenesting sites for bird species that nest incavities, such as tree swallows, woodducks and striped owls, but which breedlittle or not at all in Argenteuil for lack of availability of such cavities. Theinstallation of nesting boxes alsofacilitates the observation of species andallows us to collect data on the use ofnesting boxes and the birds’ reproduction. The maintenance and monitoring of allABN nest boxes is done once a year, usually between January and March. Themunicipality and the Argenteuil MRCpaid for the installation of nesting boxes inthe wetland near the power lines onBraemar road. The organization, LesSentiers de Gore, with the help of theCaisse Desjardins d'Argenteuil, alsoparticipated by paying for the installationof nesting boxes at Parc des Pionniers andParc Denommé.
