Matt Ridley, Author of “The Rational Optimist”

Matt Ridley's books have sold over a million copies, been translated into 30 languages, been short-listed for nine

major literary prizes and won several awards. He worked for The Economist for nine years as science editor,

Washington correspondent, and American editor, before becoming a self-employed writer and businessman. He

was founding chairman of the International Centre for Life in Newcastle. He currently writes the Mind and

Matter column in The Wall Street Journal and writes regularly for The Times. As Viscount Ridley, he was elected

to the House of Lords in February 2013. He is a fellow of the Royal Society of Literature and of the Academy of

Medical Sciences, and a foreign honorary member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

Mark P. Mills of the Manhattan Institute

Mark P Mills is co-author with Peter Huber of the book, The Bottomless Well, a senior fellow of the Manhattan

Institute, and founder and CEO of the Digital Power Group, a tech-centric capital advisory group. He was

formerly the co-founder and chief tech strategist for Digital Power Capital, a boutique venture fund. He co-

founded and served as Chairman and CTO of ICx Technologies helping take it public in a 2007 IPO. Mark is a

member of the Advisory Council of the McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science at Northwestern

University, and serves on the Board of Directors of the Marshall Institute. He writes the Energy Intelligence

column for Forbes.

Dr. Frank Clemente, Professor Emeritus of Social Science at Penn State University

Professor Clemente’s research specialization is the socioeconomic impact of energy policy— especially issues

relating to electricity generation, reliability and cost. He was editor and primary author of the International

Energy Agency report The Global Value of Coal. He has published over 100 articles in such media as Public

Utilities Fortnightly, Electric Perspectives, World Oil, Nuclear News, American Coal, and Oil and Gas Journal.

Professor Clemente has been listed in the social science section of American Men and Women of Science.

books on the topic of climate change. The closing reception will provide a networking

opportunity and allow conference attendees to purchase books from the speakers.
