I am super excited and already thinking ahead to September when you will be welcomed at St. Benedict's Catholic High

School to start the next stage of your learning journey with us.

Who am I, and what is my role at St. Benedict's? My name is Ms.Akram and I am Head ofYear7 and SENDCo forKey

Stage 3. I've been at St. Benedict's Catholic High School since January 2020. I've not been here that long, however I feel so at home at the

school. I have quickly become part of an extended family, which is just amazing. St. Benedict's is a special place and a fabulous school, and

that is why I am confident it won't take you long to feel secure and settled here.

What do we value at St. Benedict's Catholic High School and what do we expect from our pupils?

We encourage, support and inspire young people in the journey of faith and to live in the example of Jesus Christ. Our assemblies and

Catholic calendar focus on strengthening our faith and this makes us special and different to other schools.

We strive to create a strong feeling of family and community where everyone is valued and respected as individuals in their own right. You

will be part of this school community. Our Transition Ambassadors, my dynamic team of older students are looking forward to helping,

guiding and doing what they can to make you feel welcome at St. Benedict's.

At St. Benedict's, our aim is to develop your God-given talents. In other words, developing your intellectual, creative, physical spiritual potential. Our staff will support you to do your best in all lessons. They will also encourage you to get involved in extra-curricular activities and charity events where you can 'give back' to our community.

You are our priority and we work in partnership with parents, our feeder schools and the wider school community to ensure that your time here is fruitful. We expect you to work in partnership with us in a spirit of mutual service for the benefit of all. I firmly believe that "Success is secured when we act together in partnership".

I believe in this so much that I end all my emails with the statement, so I hope you and your parents and carers will work with me to build positive working partnerships during your time at St. Benedict's, where learning, progress, attendance and positive behaviour is celebrated together.

At St. Benedict's we strive to prepare young people for life beyond school. This is part of our job and as a result sometimes you will have to do things that you do not like or do not want to do. However, this is part of your educational and personal growth and it's our duty to ensure you are given the opportunity to develop your talents, your integrity, your moral values and build personal resilience for the challenges and adventures that lie ahead. I am really looking forward to meeting you and your parents/carers very soon, but if you have any questions, please do contact me directly at the school by emailing [email protected]

All the staff at St. Benedict's would like to wish you a safe summer and look forward to seeing you all in September. Don't forget to take a look at our Transition Video.

Instrumental Tuition at St. Benedict’s Catholic High School

Dear Parent/Carer,

I am writing to inform you of the instrumental tuition offer at St. Benedict’s Catholic High School. At present, some St Benedict’s pupils receive high quality instrumental tuition on a weekly basis with a visiting specialist. We are able to offer these lessons at a very competitive rate of £9.50 per 20-minute lesson. For pupils in receipt of free school meals, 50% of the cost of these lessons is subsidised by the school.

We have spaces for instrumental tuition on the following instruments:

• Piano

• Keyboard

• Violin

• Clarinet

• Flute

• Saxophone

• Guitar (electric, acoustic and classical)

• Drumkit

We are also seeking to recruit a singing teacher so that we can offer singing lessons to commence in September. There is space on the attached form for you to indicate your interest in this.

If you would like your child to receive instrumental tuition, please read the terms of provision (attached to this letter) carefully and return the Instrumental Tuition Application Form via email to [email protected] by Friday 17th July 2020. This will enable me to liaise with the appropriate tutors, share your details with them, and arrange for lessons to commence when your child starts at St. Benedict’s in September.

If you have any queries, do not hesitate to get in touch via email.

With all best wishes,

Mr W Gee Head of Music [email protected]
