April 2020 Arlington Place Newsletter
Lena and Olie, have returned, and they are funnier than
ever! Its been a long time since they have been to Arlington
Place, but we welcome them back and look forward to their
next visit. ( For those who don’t know Lena and Olie, are
played by Rosie Beninga and Elna Dieken. They perform
little skits to bring joy and fun to us all. ) We look forward to
being able to have visitors again so they can open the visits
up with them and to the community!

Kaylene Hoskins
Dear Friends,
While Spring is upon us
and we are enjoying the
sunshine and warmer
temps, the thought of the
Covid-19 virus is on our
minds.
Please rest assured that we are doing everything
possible for your loved ones. We are still not allowing
visitors, delivery staff, mail personal, hairdressers,
entertainers etc. into our building to keep our resi-
dents safe.
Our staff is being monitored every shift to make sure
they are fever free, have not been in contact with an
ill person or someone who has been out of the coun-
try.
If you have a moment, the residents love to get phone
calls…if you need to drop off supplies to them, bring
them to the front entryway and we will have your
loved one at the front window so you can see them
and they you.
We are being creative with our activities to keep eve-
ryone active!
We can also connect you with your loved ones
through Facetime, Google Duo, Skype or LifeShare
(you can send them emails and pictures). If you have
any questions about connecting or how we can help
you with it, please don’t hesitate to call. 319-824-
5674
Wishing you and yours health!
Have a blessed day,
Kaylene Hoskins

April is a month that brings
awareness on the bleeding dis-
order called, hemophilia. About
400,000 people of our world
have this bleeding disorder,
and about 75% are unable to
access treatment
(awarenessdays.com). Bring-
ing awareness in regards to
this disorder, helps to educate to the general public
and raise money on treatment costs.
This disorder is inherited from blood line, these peo-
ple of this disorder don’t have your average clotting
factors in your blood, which causes excessive bleed-
ing (healthline.com). There is no cure for this condi-
tion, but there are treatments to prevent complica-
tions in the future for these individuals.

Happy April,
Easter will be here soon
and I have an Easter
menu planned out,
Ham, candied sweet
potatoes/mashed pota-
toes and gravy, green
bean casserole and
lastly an Easter poke cake. When it comes to
Easter in my family, we go all out serving a ton
of food and being with the whole family all day.
Its like Thanksgiving and Christmas all over
again. I hope all the family’s have a great April,
and again I’m still asking for family favorite
meals or recipes.

For those of you who do not know I have put in my papers for retirement in April. I have been working since I
was 14 years old. It is time for my wife and I to enjoy life and do some travel-ing and a lot of fishing and hunting. I Have enjoyed my 6 years of working here, helping all of you, and maintain-
ing the building and the grounds. I hope to come and visit. I know I will
miss the job and all of you. I am sure I will keep busy for I already have a honey do list! Doing some volunteer work is also on my list. May the Lord bless you and keep you
in his glorious care. Larry McKinnon

We wanted to do something for those who work
in the hospital during this time of uncertainty so
the ladies worked really hard and made 19
masks . Big project but fun to do with all your
friends. Many hands make light work is what they
say. It feels good to help out and to be needed.

Verone Nederhoff, was born on a farm east of Wellsburg, in August of
1940. She was raised with 4 brothers and 1 sister. She remembers help-
ing her mother with the ironing. Verone, was an excellent student. She
was 3rd in her class and graduated from high school. She met Marvin, in
the 9th grade, but it was when he asked her to their junior prom when
things became serious. They married in December, of 1958. They will cel-
ebrate 62 years this year! They have 2 girls that live in the area and 1 son
in New Mexico, 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Verone, has
that special sparkle in her eye when she talks of her family. This is one of
her greatest accomplishments and what she is the most proud of. Verone,
worked for 18 years as the deputy auditor in the court house here in
Grundy Center. She truly enjoyed the job. She loved to scrapbook, sew,
and travel when she was able to have her free time. One of her favorite
memories is when her and Marvin took the whole family on a cruise to
celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary! Arlington Place, helped Marvin
and Verone, renew their vows on their 60th wedding anniversary. That
was fun for us all. Can’t wait to see what fun thing we will do for the 70th!
Verone, spends her days along side her husband, attending activities of
their choice. Come in sit visit, company is always welcomed!
