ImageOne–EggthatlookslikeEuropaIcapturedthisimagewhileatmygirlfriend’shouse,becauseIfelttheEasterEggthatherroommateshadcreatedresembledthesurfaceimagesofEuropa.WhileanactualeggbearslittleresemblancetoJupiter’sMoon,thewaythedyedriedreplicatesthedarkstreaksthatspreadacrosstheEuropa’ssurface.IfeelthatthissimpleEasteregganditsresemblanceconnectstothecoursebecausenotonlydoesislooksimilarlytoEuropa’ssurfacefeatures,butitalsorequiresustolookdeeper,andimaginerealityinadifferentlighttosometimesuncoverwhatisreallybeforeus.

ImageTwo–NorthStaratopmyXmastree,representativeofPolarisThesecondimageIcapturedwasofmyChristmastreewhichfeaturesanunrealisticallycoloredPolaris,orinlaymen’sterms,theNorthStar.Whiletheimageshownhereportraysthestaraspurpleandatopatree,inreality,PolarisisthebrighteststarintheUrsaMinorconstellation,andhasactedasapointofnavigationdatingasfarbackasHomer’sOdyssey.ThisimageconnectstothecoursebecausenotonlydidwediscussPolaris,butweashumansreliedonitforsolong,onlytocastitawaytoeagerholidaydecorators,andthoselostwithoutaGPSbutrememberedtheirsextant.IthinkPolarisifanythingrepresentsachangeintechnology,andservesasaconstantreminderoftheevolutionthathastakenplaceinregardstoourunderstandingandouruseofthesolarsystemasapointofreference,tointhelastfiftyyearsbeingaplaceofexploration.

ImageThree–OldAppleComputerLogo,VisibleLightSpectrumIwasfortunateenoughseethisimageandafewotherspostedaroundcampus,butoftheonesthatIfound,thisoldAppleComputerslogowasmyfavorite.Thislogoisveryrepresentativeofthevisiblelightspectrumthatwestudiedinclassduringweekoneofthecourse.Thisimageisinterestingtomebecauseatthetimethislogowasused,onlyasliverofthepopulationusedaMac,similartothatoftheelectromagneticspectrumtowhichushumanscanonlyseeatinypieceof.

ImageFour–PosterforPhilosophy2032,AlbertEinsteinWhileEinsteindidn’tinventtheAstronomicalUnit(AU),histheoryofrelativitycertainimpactedtheuseandprecisionofthemeasure,asthroughoutthe20thcentury,ScientistshavebecomemorereliantonEinstein’sTheoryofRelativitytopreciselydeterminethemeasurement.IthoughtthisposteroffeaturingAlbertEinsteinwouldbefittingashistheoryofrelativityhasbecomesoimportantinthestudyofspaceandtime,andhasinfluencedmanyindividuals(myselfincluded)tobecomemoreinterestedinphysics,andspaceasawholethroughthefamedE=mc2equation.SeeingitinTVshowsasakidandthenasanadulttryingtofullygrasptheconceptspresentedhaspushedmetopursuecoursessuchasthisone,andtryanddevelopmyunderstandingofSpaceandAstronomysothatIcanviewouruniversethroughamoreknowledgeablelens.

Image5–PaintingthatlooksliketheSurfaceofMarsThefinalimageIchoseisactuallyapaintingthathangsinmyapartment,andtome,remindsofmetheimageswesawinclassofMars’surfacefromtheCuriosityRover.ThepaintinghasthesameearthytoneswhichcorrespondwellwiththesurfacefeaturesonMarswhichconsistofheavilyoxidizedrocks.Whilethepaintingitselfismoretowardstheabstractside,tomeitalmostlooksasifaduststormisjuststartingandthesurfaceisbecominghazy.
