Dear Parishioners, Easter is a feast of hope which deepens messianic expectation; in the course of a paschal night, the Messiah will come! Easter appears in Christian antiquity as “the feast of feasts” commemorating not merely the resurrection of Christ but the Christian mystery in its entirety, and the realization of the design of salvation in respect to man and the world. Easter is the feast of Christ and the Christian feast par excellence, the center of all the truths of the faith. Christ our Passover has been immolated. Let us then celebrate, because in our Risen Lord the promises take figure and are fulfilled, the marvels which mark the history of the people of God find in him their fulfillment. Brethren, today as yesterday let us celebrate our joy. If the shadows of night have interrupted our celebrations, it is nonetheless the same day of celebration. The darkness of evening separates day and night, but the brightness which suffuses the joy of the Lord is eternal. Christ gave us illumination yesterday; today again we are in the warm glow of his presence. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today. I wish to all of you a Happy Easter! May the Risen Lord God bless you! God bless you! Rev. Francisco M. Tovar
Rev. Francisco M. Tovar
First Reading: Acts 10:34a, 37‑43 In this passage, Peter testifies that he and his followers saw the miracles performed by Christ, witnessed His death, and believe in His resurrection. Now they will proclaim to all that Christ is the Son of God. Ahora proclamarán a todos que Cristo es el Hijo de Dios Second Reading: Colossians 3:1‑4 Paul tells the Colossians that they will appear with Christ in glory. They should be mindful of things above rather than things on earth. Gospel: John 20:1‑9 In vivid detail, John tells us that when Mary Magdalene visited Christ’s tomb, the tomb was empty. She told the apostles, who ran to the tomb, and saw the “wrappings” on the ground. The disciple who entered first “saw and believed.”
We can search for the Lord as did Mary of Magdalena. We can run as did Peter and John, and find linen cloths and an empty tomb. Our search continues. We can reflect on our favorite post resurrection stories as recorded in the scriptures and share our belief and Easter joy.
More importantly, we need to look into our own hearts, renew our Easter faith and discover the presence of the Risen Lord in our hearts for the kingdom is near and is within you. May we mirror the joy of the first witnesses of the Risen Lord, as we live Easter every day.
EASTER SUNDAY OF THE RESURRECTION OF THE LORD—APRIL 12, 2020
“So she ran and went to Simon Peter and to the
other disciple whom Jesus loved, and told them
‘they have taken the Lord from the tomb, and we
don’t know where they have put him.’ So Peter and
the other disciple went out and came to the tomb….
Then the other disciple went in, and he saw and
believed. For they did not understand the Scriptures
that he had to rise from the dead.”

AN EASTER PRAYER
Good and gracious God, Our most glorious Creator, As we greet the signs in nature around us: Of Spring once again regaling us in bloom, In the songs of returning birds and fields soon to be planted,
We give you praise for an even greater sign of new life: the resurrection of your Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, that we especially celebrate at this time.
The sadness and despair of his death has given way to the bright promise of immortality. For the Resurrection is our guarantee that justice will triumph over treason, Light will overcome darkness, and love will conquer death.
As we celebrate, we also dare to ask for your grace that we may live the promise given to us, By imitating the life of Jesus in reaching out to the poor, the marginalized, the least among us, As we strive to be neighbor to all those we meet,
We ask your special blessings each and every day on our President. Working with him may we strive to make this great country of ours a beacon of hope and justice in a world hungry for peace and so in need of your love.
We praise you in this Easter season. Change our lives, change our hearts to be messengers of Easter joy and hope. We make our prayer through Jesus Christ, our risen Lord forever. Amen. - Fr. Larry Snyder, president of Catholic Charities
