There are total three types of Asthvarga charts.1.Bhinnasthvarga.2.Prasthara Asthvarga. 3.Samudya Asthvarga.

Each of these charts has its own use,which readers will come to know in coming articles. A plane becomes highly beneficial if he secures 5 or more bindus in its own Asthvarga. Where as a planet

with less than 4 bindus acts negatively. Results of planets with specific numbers of benfic pointswill be discussed later in detailed manner.

BHINNASTHVARGA Bhinnasthvarga is Asthvarga of a individual planet.The very first chart to be made in Asthvarga is Bhinnasthvarga of each planet except Rahu & KetuFollowing method should be adopt to make Bhinnasthvarga of planets.Though most of astrology softwares have Asthvarga calculation in them. But if you want topractice few manually, following procedure should be adopted.

For convinence of readers Asthvarga for following Horoscope is done by me. We will call thisHoroscope as example Horoscope.

In this Horoscope Sun is in Pisces. For construction of bhinnasthvarga of Sun,following steps

should be followed.1.Note planet Sun position which is in Pisces here.2.For sake of calculations make a sperate blank Horoscope,with Ascendent as Pisces with planetSun in it.

3.Now insert benfic dots in 1,2,4,7,8,9,10,11 from position of Sun.4.Here in this case dots will appear in Pisces,Aries,Gemini,Virgo,Libra,Sagiarius and Aquariuszodiacs.

Same way Sun is benfic from Moon in following positions 3,6,10,11.Again repeat the same procedure,make a blank Horoscope by pen and mark its Ascendant withMoon placement. Which is Scorpio in the example Horoscope.

Readers can make Asthvarga of planets using reference given above.These charts can ne used to judge Transit results of planets. In example Horoscope Sun is gaining7 benfic points in Capricon which means Sun Transit in Capricon will be good for native.

The total individual contribution of benfic points by any planet in any Horoscope will be the samrespective figures as given above. The total sum of benfic points of all planets will be 337 in anyHoroscope.

SAMUDYA ASTHVARGA All benfic points are added together here.1.Add all benfic points contained in Aries zodiac in Bhinnasthvarga of Sun,Moon,Mars,Mercury,

Samudya Asthvarga have great importance in judging strength of house,result of dasha,transitsand predicting specific events of one’s life.As per Prasna Marga,following figures are the minimum required in houses. If they exceeds,itsgood for concerned house.If they fall short its makes house weak.1st house‑25,2nd house‑22,3rd house‑29,4th house‑24,5th house‑25,6th house‑34,7th house‑19,8th house‑24,9th house‑29,10th house‑36,11th house‑54 and 12th house‑16.

In actual practice, its rare to come across 54 points in 11th house. While 34 points in 6th can givehealth troubles on actual grounds.I have some Horoscopes where large no of benfic points in 6thhouse caused severe health issues.

The natives Horoscope shown above and have 38 points in 6th house and is bed ridden for lastone year due to an accident which lead to damage to his spine.

Same way 19 benfic points in 7th seems to be wrong, considering Horoscopes on actual practices benfic points between 24 to 28 protects marriage.Less then 24 and more than 28 can cause maritadisharmony to native.

Iam puing few Horoscope here who are going through marital crises in their life.

Native of Horoscope no.20 have exact 19 point which as per commentries is sufficient. But inreality the native of this Horoscope never had a good marital life and is on verge of divorce.

I would like to put Horoscope(fig no‑21)of another native who have 33 points in his 7th house anhis story is also same.

As per Prasna Marga and other commentries minimum benfic points in 10th house is stated as 36which is a high number and I guess 54 benfic points in 11th house, which is a very high numberand a rare one,is stated by them to highlight the fruits of 10th house having high number ofAsthvarga points.

It’s rare to see 54 points in 11th house even in Horoscope’s of ultra wealthy people.Which meanssages here didn’t mean money by high 54 points in 11th house.May be it was their indirectreference for hardwork which comes under 10th.More you do the hardwork ( 10th house) morewill be the gains (11th house).

Or may be author of Prasna Marga wanted to say that a person should have high benfic points in10th house, in oder to achieve high status in life which will lead to high gains through 11th housso that natives remains satisfied.

More benfic points in 11th can make a person greedy if 10th house benfic points don’t complimenit.In other word there should not be a much difference between 11th and 10th house points andfor easy gains 11th house should have more points then 10th but again the difference should not

be large.

We will discuss on all techniques of Samudya Asthvarga in separate chapters once I complete all basics first.

PRASTHARA ASTHVARGA It’s is called as spread out Asthvarga also and requires use of Bhinnasthvarga but In detailedmanner where Kakasha is also shown along with benfic points in zodiacs.Here the benfic points contributed by each of the planets are isolated so that while predicting theresults of Dasha and Transits exact nature if results can be known.I will explain the utility of Prasthara Asthvarga with example Horoscope.

Currently Native of example Horoscope is running Jupiter – Saturn. Saturn is in Sagiarius andin Asthvarga of Jupiter(Fig no.23), Saturn is contributing benfic point to Sagiarius. So far Nativehave enjoyed good results of Saturn antardasha in Jupiter mahadasha.He got salary hike,gotmarried in July 2015 and his sister is geing married in Jan‑2016.

Since Saturn is having 6 benfic dots out of 8 in its zodiac Sagiarius. Native will continue to enjoy

good results of it.

Note:There is a debate between South Indians and North Indians about the bindus and rekhas.Sohere we will use only benfic bindus or positive points.

There is no mention of compution of Rahu & Ketu by Sage Parashar but there is a mention ofAsthavarga of Rahu in Shambuhora.Few other things which are important to know in beginning.

Each of the 12 zodiacs are divided into eight sub divisions called Kakshas

For AV purpose each zodiac is divided into 8 parts called Kakshas. Each kakshas has a span of 3degree 45 minutes.In a way Kakasha are prey similar to division of zodiacs via Nakshatras & its pada.One zodiachave 9 padas.

The 1st kaksha of each rasi is ruled by saturn, the 2nd by jupiter, 3rd by mars, 4th by sun, 5th byvenus, 6th by mercury, the 7th by moon and the 8th by the lagna. This Kakasha division is uniquin a way that the first three Kakshya belongs to Outer Planets Saturn,Jupiter,Mars but are placed

in reverse order. Saturn being the farthest is alloed first Kakshya then Jupiter & Mars.Sun is considered as Centre here being 4th Kakshas, then interior orbit planets are placed inreverse oder i.e though Moon is closest to earth,it lords over second last Kakshya and laganawhich represent human beings or ourself comes in last Kakasha i.e 8th Kakasha

Let’s see in which Kakshas planets Saturn & Jupiter are transiting today.

On 28/12/2015,Saturn is in Scorpio at 16 degrees 38 minutes & Jupiter is in Leo at 28 degrees 57minutes.Now if you want to know in which Kakasha Planet Saturn is in now. Simply divide degrees ofSaturn 16 degree 38 minutes or 16.63° by span of one Kakasha 3 degree 45 minutes or 3.75°degrees.16.63/3.75=4.34,hence Saturn is in 5th Kakasha which belongs to Planet Venus.For Jupiter, 28.95/3.75=7.7 which mean Jupiter is in 8th Kakasha which belongs to Moon.These Kakshas are used in giving effects of Transits & Dahsa results. The 1st type are the Bhinnashtakavarga charts, prepared for the lagna and the 7 planets – total 8

charts are made. What we did for Mars before is called as Bhinnashtakavarga. image

Picture shown above shows the Prasthara Asthvarga chart of Mars of example horoscope.Thezodiacs are marked horizontally by the respective Zodiacs abbreviations i.e., Ar for Aries, Tau forTaurus etc. The 8 Kakshas are to be seen vertically. A Bhinnashtakavarga kaksha of any rasi cancontain only one point. If a positive point is contributed by any planet in a kaksha it is marked by1, otherwise by 0. So we can see that in the chart of the Bhinnasakavarga of Mars, in the sign Arieonly one benfic point is there which is contributed by Ascendent. In Tauras sign three benficpoints are contributed by Sun,Saturn & Venus. The total positive points contributed in Aries are 1

and in Tauras 3. We can see the other signs similarly. The Bhinnashtakavarga charts of planets arevery useful to study the transit effects of planets. For example Mars transits a zodiac for or aroun45 days. But the results he gives are not uniform throughout the 45 days. Mars produces goodresults while transiting the Kakshas where there is a positive point and if negative point is therehe gives bad results. In example horoscope case Mars while transiting the Last kaksha of Aries,from 26°15′ to 30 degrees will give good results as Mars has contributed a positive point there.While in other kakshas from 00 to 26° 15′ Mars will give negative results. As Aries has only 1

positive and 5 negative points in Mars BAV chart, mars transit in Aries will prove bad for thenative of example Horoscope.

The good or bad effects will have a relation with the planet contributing the point, either positiveor negative. They will have a link to its nature, house ownership etc.In similar fashion with the help of the BAV charts of the other planets we can study their transiteffects.Tomorrow we will learn more about on Bhinna asthvarga of planets & and other Ashtakavargachart. Its very important to Know about various Asthvarga charts then only you can masterAsthvarga.

Ashtakavarga has many more applications. While analyzing the effects of a house, by studyinghow many total good and bad points are there, contributed by which planets, etc give severalclues about the house effects.Though its a must for you to know about fixed significance of allpalents like Sun is significator of father,soul,government etc. We will cover all topics but beforethat read this article and practice manually.
