Dispatch process: Defining the Business Need for a solution

    Operational Driver Business Case

Handwritten marking on crates has the risk oferroneous marking. It can also lead to confusionat the time of dispatching if not clearly written

Barcodes are a full proof way of markingand can hasten the delivery process

Too much manual intervention: Truck driver hasto manually confirm the order with outlet staffwhich can cause delays and errors. In case ofwrong destination, time wasted in re-routing andre-dispatching

Minimal manual intervention. Travel timecan be used for confirming the nextdestination. Less errors in delivery

Downstream effect of erroneous unloading andalso difficulty in tracking where exactly themistake occurred

Database of delivered and pending crates, along with outlets visited can be used toensure a trail is maintained and errors, ifany, can be investigated

Manual routing based on discretion of the driver The system can effectively suggest the mostefficient route- saving time and deliveringfresher products with minimum error

    Strategic Driver Business Case

Existing labelling method is not scalableand will lead to poor dispatch service, given the plans of expanding to 400outlets

With the bar code system deployed, new outlets canbe easily added as the system will take care of thelabelling and routing concerns

With growth will come the need todrive efficiencies and optimizations. There’s is a need to hav e a historicaldata that can be analyzed

Data analysis and metrics can be effectively used bythe management to streamline the dispatch processcontinuously and drive cost saving and processefficiencies

Dynamic decision making will beneeded in the future to aid expansion

The management can slice and dice the delivery dataand take expansion and other strategic decisionseffectively

Quality of service and goodwill The outlets will receive error free deliver, fasterdelivery will mean fresher products/ingredients,outlets will be able to service customers better. Thiswill aid the company in providing quality service toall stakeholders, creating stronger brand equity
