[In the many decades of Earlyne’s teachings there is a wealth of material we continue to share.]

The next message I received was something similar to a famous line from a classic movie. The movie I’m talking about is Key Largo, starring Lauren Becall and Humphrey Bogart. And, this time my wonderful guardian angels and Master Teachers changed a word or two on me so that I would know for sure it was a message from above. I was simply thinking about working as hard as I could to improve my walking, and to get my equilibrium back. Suddenly, into my mind came an image of wonderful Lauren Becall heading to the doorway, and turning around at the open door. Calling back to Humphrey Bogart, she said the famous line: “You know how to whistle, don’t you, Steve? You just put your lips together and blow.” The actual line that I received from heaven was: “You know how to walk, don’t you Sita? Just put your legs together and walk.” The message, of course, conveys both the simplicity of the goal that I was trying to reach and, the difficulty. Easier said than done, as they say. It reminded me of something that Jesus said in one of the scriptures where’s he’s working on healing people. When Jesus put his hand out to a crippled man he said, “Pick up thy bed and walk.” Now, giving someone the power to walk is absolutely miraculous, of course. But also saying, “Pick up thy bed” to me refers to a great deal of the healing process that you have to go through. It’s not simply that suddenly everything is back to normal, and off you go dancing down the street. “Pick up thy bed” — how difficult could that have been for someone, especially at that time? Just think, if today some Master Teacher said that to you. Imagine if you had to somehow tuck your mattress under your arm to walk down the street. It’s awfully hard, but somehow you’re channeled the wonderful, diving healing energy to enable you to do just that. You have to do your own part of it. You have to pick up thy bed, and learn how to walk once again. Again, I received the message that they’re up there doing everything they can to help me. They reminded me that I know how to walk. I had it in me. They were sending healing energy down to

Is it true that Jesus actually survived the crucifixion and returned to the Near East and India for many years until he died of old age?

I do not believe that Jesus actually “survived” the crucifixion. I do believe he went to Egypt, Greece and the Mystery Schools before his death during the years between twelve and thirty-three. I believe he was initiated into the Mysteries, which further enhanced his spiritual powers. I also believe that before the Master came to Earth, he knew his primary mission was to so spiritualize his mortal body as to be beyond destruction, and his purpose was to demonstrate to all his future disciples that he could raise it again after it had been crucified, thus proving that his body was not subject to physical death as we know it. His resurrection also symbolized the truth of reincarnation. He was crucified on the cross, but he did not “die” on the cross, as we know death. Perhaps he was actually in a state of suspended animation, if you will, until his body could be entombed, symbolizing the usual death. His spirit departed from his body, but the silver cord did not break, and while entombed, he was able to trans-mute the physical atoms of his body into etheric atoms and ascend into the higher planes of life. He is capable of appearing on any plane, the physical as well as any of the higher planes. So we of Earth could very well “see” him through a psychic or spiritual contact — if he so chooses.

There is one great person you all should meet some time, and that is your Self — the hardest person ever to meet. We all want to understand the others, don’t we? When you learn to understand yourself, you learn to know everyone else. And yet it somehow always seems easier to study our friends than to study ourselves, doesn’t it? The basic thought to start with in all teaching of social values, whether it be with children or with adults who seek the truth, is self-acquaintance. To understand human nature, it is not necessary to acquaint yourself with all of society. Instead, study yourself impersonally. Direct your thoughts to the discovery of the inner workings of your own mind and emotions. Dig deep within until you thoroughly know yourself, and then you will be able to understand and get along with everyone else. But be as honest with yourself as you would be with others.

Jesus said, “If you are not gathering the precious grain you are throwing it away.” Humans are on earth to gain the goodness of life through experience. They are made selfish because they throw away the grain of goodness in every experience. The thresher comes, and flails life, releasing the grain from the chaff. It is your duty, then, to fan the chaff into the past, and store the grain for tomorrow. Remember that every day’s experience bears grain to feed your life. If you are starving it is only the fault of your own unwillingness to do your part. Continued on page 3

[Sita Earlyne Chaney (1956-2008) was the only child of Astara’s founders, Earlyne and Robert Chaney. She contributed to The Voice in one way or another since the day she was born. Here is an excerpt from her book, Long Night’s Journey Into Dawn — Ease Your Pain.]


In September Earth’s movement speaks to us softly in one twenty-four hour period as the light of day and the dark of night are twinned in time. Through the Book of Dzyan, this Lesson reminds us that Earth is a living, moving entity, and as such begged for us, longed us into being through putting much effort into meeting the requirements for the life of us. Earth chose to be the world of manifestation needed for our Return. In this season of balance and the slow turn inward, let us love as much in return.

STANZA ONE — Beginning of a Sentient Life

Verse 1 — The Lha which turns the fourth (Earth) is servant to the Lha(s) of the seven (the Planetary Spirits, they who revolve, driving their chariots around their Lord, the one-eye (Loka Chakshub) of our world. His breath gave life to the seven (gives light to the planets). It gave life to the first.) “They are all Dragons of Wisdom.”

We have now come to the point in evolution which involves the taking of the components of matter and arranging them into forms. That structure can take the form of anything — a sun, a planet or a human being. In this first Stanza, we are talking about form taking the structure of the Sun, the Earth and all other planets — a solar system. This Stanza refers to the Lha — or Spirit — which turns our planet. We pause here to re-member that the Earth is a living entity — a breathing, evolving organism and, therefore, has a spirit. The spirit ensouling our planet is called the Lha. The Lhas are spirits of the highest spheres. The shining establishment in Tibet is called Lhassa, meaning the dwelling place of a god, the residence of the Dalai Lhama. The title of Lha is often given in Tibet to some Narjals — saints or yogi Masters — who have attained supreme occult powers. So this Stanza begins by saying that the Lha or spirit which turns our planet is servant to the spirit of the seven. This indicates that our Earth is not as old as some of the other planets. It is subservient to the spirit of the other seven. “They who revolve” refers to the planets driving their chariots around their Divine Being — the one eye of our world, the sun. His breath — the sun’s rays — gave life to the seven — the seven planets. “It gave life to the first. They are all Dragons of Wisdom.” In other words, they are all suns within themselves. They are all alive with lights unto themselves or with planetary beings involved in supervising their evolution. This could also imply there is a sun at the cen-ter core of our Earth. But the principal point of Stanza One is to indicate that our Earth planet — which is fourth in the chain — is subservient to the chief spirit, or god, of the seven planetary spirits — is subservient to the Sun. The Sun, as with all globes, has seven offspring — or Great Angels before the Throne; seven Beings who dwell in the Sun itself and direct the progress of the solar system from their central kingdom.

Verse 2 — Said the Earth; “Lord of the Shining Face (the Sun) my house is empty ... Send thy sons to people this wheel (Earth). Thou has sent they seven sons to the Lord of wisdom. Seven times doth he see thee nearer to himself; seven times more doth he feel thee. Thou has forbidden they servants, the small rings, to catch thy light and heat, they great Bounty to inter-cept on its passage. Send now to they servant the same.”

The Earth is complaining to the Sun, Lord of the Shining Face, that her house is empty and imploring the Sun to send her seven great Beings to start a lifewave to people the wheel. — the planet. Earth is cosmically declaring that it is now prepared and ready to support life. Earth complains, “Thou has send seven sons to the Lord of Wisdom. Why not to me!” [Seventh Degree, Lesson 9, page 18]

me. I had to put my legs together and walk to the nearest physical therapist’s place, and do all that I could to get my equilibrium back. Sounds simple, dear reader? Believe me, it is not. But, we all have the ability within us to walk further down our spiritual paths, no matter what’s in our way. Put your mind to it, dear reader. Put your heart to it, whatever your goal may be. You can do it. Just put your mind and heart together, your consciousness, and your spirit. Walk. You will have divine guidance every step of the way, from Jesus, from Mother Mary, from Buddha, from Moses, from the Goddess-Priestess Isis, from many who are up there attempting to guide you along.

A friend invited me to a seminar and Fire Initiation Ceremony held by Dr. Earlyne Chaney at a small town outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I joined Astara, studied the Degree Lessons and have been blessed with help from fellow Astarians. “My son was killed in an auto accident in 1969 — Earlyne talked with me during that weekend about my son, giving me a greater understanding of ‘life after life.’ Her empathy helped heal a great void in my heart. “Then my husband suffered a heart attack in the late 70s — prayers from Astarians gave me comfort and helped his progress. Later, in the 1980s, he was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor. I called on Astara to pray for us then. Involvement with others in Astara’s studies, whether it be one-on-one or with many, is a good idea for the following reasons: First, it is a way of bringing the Degree Lessons and other material to life through interaction with other members. In addition, we often learn so much through sharing our experiences and energies. Remember, too, that enjoyment is often a mutually rewarding aid to learning, and study groups provide a perfect vehicle for having fun while growing as an individual and as a group! Astara has developed and maintains a database of both study groups and members wishing to become part a group. If you would like to find out if there are other Astarians living near you who either belong to an existing group or would like to form or join a new group, you may request a listing of names and contact information. If by contacting us you find there are no existing groups or Astarians listed in your area, you can choose to form an Astara Study Group made up of people you feel would benefit through membership in Astara and study of the Degree Lessons. Lailat al Kadr Lailat al Kadr (also spelled Laylat al-Qadr and Shab-e-Qadr), means the “Night of Destiny” or the “Divine Decree,” and marks the anniversary of the night in which the Qur’an was first communicated in its entirety to Muhammad. Muslims believe that on this day angels came to earth and Gabriel revealed the decrees of God. Some refer to it as Night of Power. The date on the Gregorian calendar varies from year to year, since the Gregorian calendar is a solar calendar and the Islamic calendar is a lunar calendar. Although this year lists the date as September 16, this is not confirmed since no one truly remembers exactly which night it was. Muslims look for unusual signs on the last ten nights of Ramadhan.

In the Spring and Autumn of the year we are afforded a great opportunity to share a minor miracle with children (or the child within us) as we acknowledge the Equinoxes. The moment of the Equinox is like the pause between an in-breath and an out-breath, the silent steady state when we are held between the two. These are times of great balance. Our world is so balanced at the exact time of the Equinox that a raw egg can be balanced on end (bigger end down and little end up, please). Not two or three minutes before or two or three minutes after, but at that exact time, the raw egg stands balanced. Much can be said about that balanced egg as a metaphor for us and for our lives, as we can share with wide-eyed children, or doubting friends, watching this apparent miracle. Timing is everything. To be prepared for the proper timing, to be in the correct place at the correct time, to be aware of our surroundings and to seize the moment, are all important insights illustrated by the balanced egg. Here are some more insights to reflect upon: to be open to the improbable; to realize that the daily paradigm can be shifted (and is being shifted) in sometimes very unnoticeable but important ways; or that there is order in our world, that all is being held in balance. The Equinoxes are truly the shifting points of two great tides, in Spring welcoming in a period of growth, activity and abundance; in the Autumn ushering in a period of reflection, contemplation and moving within. As we become aware of these great currents, we can sense how their vibrations affect all life on this planet, including us. Through that insight comes directed action, flowing in harmony with these natural tides, understanding their innate effect on us. So share this little experiment on the upcoming Equinox, Tuesday, September 22, 5:19 pm Eastern Time, 4:19 pm Central Time, 3:19 Mountain Time and 2:19 pm Pacific Time. Become more aware of the still silent point between the tides and reflect upon its importance in your life. Blessings to all!

The rest of the Lesson progresses through more of the verses, through the evolutionary processes of Earth and its eventual humans and the Star Logoi of each of the Rays of evolution. Then, we read ... Time will see us someday arriving at the point where the entire lifewave will no longer need to incarnate on Earth — in dense physical forms. Earth will no longer have a responsibil-ity to support life in the field of dense physical matter. Both Earth and its lifewave, ending a long and weary struggle toward the light, will graduate to and manifest on the etheric level. From there both the planet and the lifewave will evolve to more infinite essences. The ascent will be gradual but eventually the planet will merge into its pralaya of rest and reward. Each soul of the lifewave will wear a form of celestial light, having arrived at its ultimate godhead to rest in Nirvanic bliss near the great heart of God. [Seventh Degree, Lesson 10, page 16]

We Get Letters... “I would like to dedicate this donation to our dear friend, Fred Stewart. I cried when my mom read the letter that Astara had sent out with the news of his passing, although, I am happy that he is now in a better place. “I think I was about seven or eight years old when I first met Fred, in Astara’s New Leaf Book-store in Upland. My mom, dad, brother and I were attending therapy through an organization that was renting space from Astara in the back building of the Upland property. It was a difficult time for my family, but seeing the smiling faces of Fred, Rich-ard and Susan (bookstore staff) made things a little easier. Fred was there to talk to us and tell me all about the different spiritual items the bookstore had to offer. I remember looking forward to Tues-days so that I could see Fred and spend time in the bookstore. To this day, I still have the “La Oof Monster” stuffed animal that I remember desper-ately wanting and receiving for Christmas that year from the New Leaf bookstore. “Just entering the property in Upland, you could instantly feel the positive, healing energy of Astara. The New Leaf Bookstore was our ref-uge, even on rainy days Fred was there to greet us with his kind and loving smile. Several years after Astara had sold the Upland property and moved across the street, my family and I attended church there. It had been several years since I had last seen Fred, but lo and behold one Sunday morning, there was Fred! I was so happy to see him after all that time! Dear Astarian — We’ve had a number of questions and inquiries about the ritual of saying the Rosary since we offered strings of Rosary beads as one of this year’s fundraiser thank-you gifts. As we mentioned, Dr. Earlyne used a set of beads to pray her version of the Rosary. Using beads as an aid to prayer, meditation and worship is certainly nothing new and not confined to the Catholic church. The earliest use of prayer beads can be traced to Hinduism, where they are called Japa Mala. Japa is the repeating of the name of a deity or a mantra. Mala in Sanskrit means “garland” or “wreath.” The first known use of this type of thing in Christanity dates back to the 3rd Century AD, using knotted ropes, which was likely to have been the root of the Rosary adopted by the Roman Catholic Church. Dr. Earlyne used her beads in a rather nontraditional manner, as described in her book, Madonna and the Coming Light. She responded there to a comment she often heard from those unable to pray the traditional collection of Rosary prayers:

“... Nor can I. I remember reading about the life of St. Teresa, the Little Flower, who said quite frankly, ‘I cannot say the rosary.’ I, too, find it difficult. So I say seven Our Fathers and seven Hail Marys. After that, I just talk to her [Mother Mary], asking healing for others and peace in the world. I close by say-ing one Glory Be. So don’t worry about saying the traditional words — make up your own. The idea is to ‘tune in’ with a higher Source to call down blessings.”

“Tuning in” has been the real point of using any kind of similar aid from the known beginning of their use. The “magic” of mantras is how they prepare and propel one into a meditative state, all the while helping to keep the conscious mind occupied and out of the way. Prayers and even single words or syllables can be applied in just the same way. While I have a collection of mala beads and similar ritualistic objects from my travels, I rarely use them during my personal meditation time. I do, however, use their underlying principle often. To begin my morning meditations I use a personal mantra — a single line I repeat over and over in my mind until I find I have “slipped” into that sacred place within ... “Open my mind to Your wisdom; open my heart to Your love.” This alone works for me, but if it wasn’t enough to help me enter that altered state of meditation, I could easily see myself tracking my repetitions on a set of beads as well, and how that would assist the process. I once rebelled against ritual, because all I saw was the purposeless adherence to tradi-tional practices for their sake alone — not attempting to experience their intended effect. I have since come to realize and respect the value of ritual approached with reverence and purpose. Astara’s Fire Initiation is one ritual I’ve come to personally cherish. I even recog-nize that I likely collect malas not just for their beauty and travel memories, but to honor their significance to me in deeper, more distant memories. Personalize the practice of your rituals, seek and hold the deepest understanding of their value to you, and every word, every movement will become another step along your spiritual path. — In Love & Light,
