14th Annual Labor of Love Online Auction
Saturday, February 21 - Sunday, March 1, 2015
Procurement Deadline February 16
Hooray to all of the circles whose projects did so well as the year ended! To all those who sold wreaths, poinsettias, paperwhites, tickets to the Home Tour, and bake sale treats, and to everyone who donated or made pur-chases for the Christmas gift program - thank you! Our Endowment Christmas Letter appeal also did very well this year. All the behind-the-scenes work really led to some generous results and everyone deserves much credit. The online Labor of Love Auction is getting underway as we speak. We need you! As this is an all-ACC endeavor, we look forward to again having all of our circles make donations (items of at least $25) and spread the word out. We go live online February 21st, and this year will be adding a feature that will let you know if you have been outbid on items of interest so you can up your bid. We are beginning to create a buzz with this auction, which has many items people look forward to. This will be a lot of fun, with opportunities for everyone to be involved! The results of our survey of active members have been compiled. All circle chairs were emailed a copy to share with their members. If you haven’t yet seen a copy of the report, please contact me or the ACC office; we will have a link to the results on our website, too. Thank you so much to everyone who took time to respond. We received many thoughtful and helpful comments. We’ll talk more about the survey results at the February 11th board meeting and form some follow-up activity. I hope every circle has the opportunity to send a representative. As next steps become clear, we will get the information out, as anyone and everyone who is interested will be welcome to participate. We were delighted to have Josephine Tamayo Murray at our last board meeting. Josephine, VP for Public Policy, CCS/Catholic Housing Services of Western Washington, is a long-time friend of the ACC. She filled us in on what the upcoming state legislative session looks like (very challenging) and on the new pregnancy and parenting support program many of us are already seeing in our parishes, Prepares, and Temporary Assistance for the Needy (TANF). Look for more information about this program in the newsletter and on our website.
Let’s have a terrific Labor of Love auction!

CHRISTMAS GIFT GIVING UPDATE Thank you circle members and especially Suzan Hruska. Our ACC gift giving program was smoothing
sailing this year due to the organization of Suzan and all circle chairpersons. Every charity that requested
help this Christmas from ACC regarding gifts was supported because of your generosity. This program
continues to give back to ACC members in the goodwill of helping others, one of our mission endeavors.
Josephine Tamayo Murray speaks at Board Meeting
Josephine presented information regarding Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF):
TANF provides minimal cash assistance to children and their families. TANF’s current grant in Washington for a
family of three is $478 a month, used to pay for rent, utilities, food, clothing and hygiene items. The push is to
restore the 15% TANF cut from 2011, increasing the grant to $562 a month for a family of three.
TANF is the #1 source of support for children in poverty—serving 62,579 children a month. There are more than
288,000 kids living in poverty in Washington state. 5654 families are currently both on TANF and homeless.
In 2012-13 only 52.6 percent of homeless kids graduated high school. Funding education alone will not improve
outcomes for homeless kids. Helping children and their families in deep poverty achieve economic stability is a
critical step in improving educational outcomes. Restoring the TANF grant is a key ingredient in keeping families
from becoming homeless. This is a legislative issue.

It’s so easy to forget the many things that need to take place when reviewing your
estate paperwork. ACC has been the beneficiary of many wonderful gifts from
circle members, spouses and friends because members did mention their
requests to family members.
Here is our Endowment Committee’s suggested obituary wording to include in
your estate plan paperwork and share with your family members: In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the ACC Endowment Fund, for
children and families in need. Association for Catholic Childhood,
