    Careers in Game Design

The Game Design program at Lee College prepares graduates for entry level employment for occupations such as:

    GAME TECHNICIAN / TESTER $49,0002

Game Technicians could be responsible for various aspects of a video game, including testing games, designing modifications, analyzing and optimizing game code, and writing game code. A Game Tester is responsible for creating reports pertaining to any programming or artistic issues that arise. To do this, they play every aspect of the game, thinking of every combination of moves that

    can happen.

    Game Designer $63,9703

Game Designers devise what a game consists of and how it plays. They plan and define all the elements of a game: its setting; structure; rules; story flow; characters; the objects, props, vehicles, and devices available to the characters; interface design; and modes of play.

    Game Programmer $88,5003

Game programmers work at the heart of the game development process. They design and write the computer code that runs and controls the game, incorporating and adapting any ready-made code libraries and writing custom code as required. They test the code and fix any bugs with the program that they find.

GAME ARTIST / ANIMATOR $70,5303Artists create the visual elements of a game, such as characters, scenery, props that are used by the characters, and the user interface; to name a few. They also create concept art and storyboards which help communicate the proposed visual elements during the pre-production phase. Animators, in the game industry, are responsible for the movement and behavior of the game’s objects. These objects can be anything in the game such as characters, scenery and environmental effects. Special software packages are used to create the animations.
