Prof White has developed and is responsible for teaching courses in International Commercial Arbitration; Islamic Law, Banking and Commerce; and Islamic Commercial Law (fiqh al- muāmalah) in the LL.B. and J.D. programmes. In the postgraduate programmes, he also teaches Islamic Wealth Management in the M.Sc. in Wealth Management; he is the specialisation coordinator for the Masters (LL.M.) in Islamic Law & Finance; and he has developed and is responsible for teaching courses in Islamic Law of Commercial Transactions, Islamic Finance Legal Documentation & Risk Management, and Islamic Finance Dispute Resolution in that programme. He also has developed and teaches a course in Ethics & Social Responsibility, a University core course required for all undergraduate students. Prof White’s experience with various forms of commercial dispute resolution extends back more than 30 years, beginning even before he obtained his undergraduate degree in 1977 while he was working in a law firm in the US as a legal assistant, and continuing after he obtained his Juris Doctorate in 1982 in countless commercial transactions in both the US and Europe; hundreds of civil commercial cases in various Courts and ADR proceedings as an advocate; as an arbitrator (listed and appointed through the American Arbitration Association commercial panel of arbitrators); and as a court-appointed and privately-selected mediator. Prof White was formerly a partner in Patton Boggs LLP, a Washington, DC -based law firm with offices and resident attorneys throughout the US, Qatar, and the UAE; a senior attorney in von Maur & Partners, a law firm in Frankfurt, Germany; and most recently, principal in his own law firm in North Carolina, USA. Drawing from his unique expertise in both ADR and Islamic finance, Prof White has recently published a chapter on Dispute Resolution and Specialised ADR for Islamic Financein Islamic Finance: Law & Practice (Oxford University Press: 2012), and he is a regular speaker regarding dispute resolution and Islamic finance at academic and professional seminars and conferences throughout the Region. Prof White is invited as a frequent commentator on Channel NewsAsia (with a broadcast footprint extending across South East Asia, North East Asia, South Asia, the Middle East, and Australia) and in other newspapers and magazines such as Gulf News (UAE), al-Eqtisadyah (Saudi Arabia), Islamic Finance Asia (Kuala Lumpur), Islamic Business & Finance (Dubai), Business Islamica (Dubai), and Islamic Finance News (Kuala Lumpur), for which he is the Singapore Correspondent. Prof White is a Member of the International Editorial Board of Global Islamic Finance Magazine (UK), and he acts as a referee for peer-reviewed and other academic publications, including the tier-one ranked Singapore Academy of Law Journal (Singapore), the Sydney Law Review (Australia), and the Hamline University (USA) Journal of Law & Religion. Further, he has been engaged by publisher John Wiley & Sons as a Consulting Editor and author of an introduction of a book on Marketing to the Muslim World: Reaching 1½ billion Consumers, as well as a chapter on “Legal Risk Exposure in Islamic Finance” in Islamic Finance: The New Regulatory Challenge 2nd Edition, and he is under contract with LexisNexis for publication of a book on Islamic law and finance in the context of Asia. Prof White’s current focus is on ADR in the context of Islamic finance (concepts of sulh ﺻﻠﺢ, including tahkīm ﺗﺤﻜand wasātah ﺳﺎ), combining his professional experience in conventional ADR with his significant scholarship and teaching in Islamic law and finance. He currently is an Adjudicator in Singapore’s Financial Industry Disputes Resolution Centre (FIDReC), and holds an appointment to the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC) Panel of Arbitrators and to the Kuala Lumpur Regional Centre for Arbitration (KLRCA / Panel for Islamic Banking and Financial Services Arbitration). Prof White previously held an appointment as a Senior Fellow in the Melbourne Law School, University of Melbourne, Australia (AY 2007, 2008 and 2009), where he taught Islamic Law & Politics in Asia as part of the Melbourne Law Masters graduate program, and he also was awarded both the Melbourne International Fee Remission Scholarship and the Melbourne International Research Scholarship for a Ph.D. dissertation in the Melbourne Law School analyzing Sharī‘ah-based commercial ADR in South East Asia. He holds continuing appointments in the Melbourne Law School’s Centre for Islamic Law and Society, as well as its Centre for Corporate Law & Securities Regulation. • International Commercial Arbitration: introduction for law students to the core principles

of ADR and international commercial arbitration, the primary international arbitral institutions and legal frameworks governing cross-border commercial disputes, and a focus on the approaches and values adopted by leading international centers of arbitration in the West and in Asia, including especially Singapore

• Islamic Finance Dispute Resolution: an elective course for the both the specialized LL.M.
