Local music is a huge part of the young peoples sceen here on Whidbey Island. The Local music sceen stretches from Whidbey Is-land to Seattle which makes spreading the word a lot easier for new
bands. Potbelly is a popular local band here on the island. They have
been around for almost 20 years now creating shows such as Island Toga Fest, Concets at Robs house of Love. All which are very fun and
raise money. (local house/property), and much more.
As potbelly grows older the band continues to change. In this issue, there is an article on new guitarist, Chris Ogden. Chris has been in-
volved in the music sceen for some time now and has no plans to stop any time soon.
People tend to see the “rockers” as bad influences. I disagree. They are simply a new generation which happens every decade. I think
many people need to embrace the new age. Most of these “rockers are hard working graduates who just happen to love the music sceen. As for Potbelly goes, I don’t see them quitting until the are much older.
This to me says dedication! Who could ask for more? -The management!

Interview with1. HOW DID YOU FIRST GET INTRODUCED TO POTBELLY?“ I was a young kid about 15 when I was in-troduced into the punk rock mu-sic scene when I received a flyer for a show. I went and fell in love. I had always been into music and played and wrote my own music as well”.
2. AFTER JOIN-ING WHAT CHANGED PER-TAINING TO LIFE?“Nothing has really has really changed but my schedule. Playing for Potbelly has opened me up to a whole new demographic of people however. Instead of being a part of the crowd, I am now one to be looked up to as a musician.
3. BEING NEW, HOW MANY TIMES A DAY DO YOU PRACTICE?
“I don’t practice very much, other than at parties. Most of my writing I do in my head and manifest it on my guitar later.”
4. WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THE FAN BASE?“What I think is cool about the fan base is, stereotypically they
seem like delinquents, But when you get to know most of them, they are stand up citi-zens, which work hard to achieve goals while enjoying the punk
rock scene. “

5. HOW DO YOU BALANCE POTBELLY WITH LIFE SUCH AS JOBS AND RELATIONSHIPS?
“Not much has changed because I’ve always been into the music scene since I was young. We are all the same and my friends feel the same way. It’s filled up a lot of time I would be using for less productive
things”. 6. ARE YOU INTERESTED IN MAKING MONEY FROM BEING
IN POTBELLY, OR IS IT MORE OF A HOBBY? “It is more of a hobby. The only interest I have in potbelly, money wise
is to break even at shows. We aren’t a money-seeking band; we just like getting our gas money back. Also, we pay for everything such as
recording”.7. HOW LONG DO YOU WISH TO BE A PART OF THE BAND?“As long as I possibly can. With this band or others I just want to play
music.Or until I am 27 which seems to be the stereotypical age for musicians to die”.
8. IS THERE ANYTHING YOU DON’T LIKE ABOUT BEING IN POTBELLY?
“I don’t like that we are the headlining band because I always have to wait to start drinking until the set ends. Normally I would be apart of the crowd where it is acceptable to be intoxicated while the bands
play. Being a part of the band, I am not prohibited to do so.”
