Domestic Violence Domestic violence is the pattern of violent behaviour by one partner to another in

an intimate relationship for example cohabitation, family or marriage.

Quote from Home Secretary, Mrs May “The government is ensuring that the police and other agencies have the tools

necessary to tackle domestic violence to bring offenders to justice and ensure victims have the support they need to rebuild their lives”

Statistics Every 9 seconds in the USA a woman is assaulted or beaten Domestic violence is the leading cause of injury to women (more than muggings

and car accidents) Studies show that up to 10 million children witness some form of domestic

violence yearly

London Riots Between 6th - 10th August 2011 many towns across England experienced

widespread destruction including rioting and looting.

The first night of rioting took place on 7th August after a protest in Tottenham subsequent to the death of Mark Duggan, who was from the area and was shot dead by the police.

From then onwards there was complete violence, especially towards the police.

There have been a lot of prejudice remarks about the age, race and home townof the majority of rioters

Arranged Marriages Arranged marriages are profoundly rooted in royal families and are commonly

practiced in areas such as Africa, the Middle East and South-east Asia.

Matches could be chosen by parents or agents or a trustworthy third party. In some countries priests or religious figures can be involved with matchmaking.

However there are arguments to arranged marriages..

The person hasn’t got the freedom of choice in their own relationship and future which they need to have

If they do not feel any love for their match when they first meet they are led to believe that love will eventually come. Love isn’t the priority but it should be.

Interference from family and others around what should be your own private life

Page 22: Assignment 8 a2

Quote from UK Prime Minister, David Cameron

'Forced marriage is abhorrent and little more than slavery. To force anyone into marriage against their will is simply wrong and that is why we have taken decisive action to make it illegal.’

E - INSPIRATION

I got a lot of inspiration from the BBC Documentary AleshaDixon: Don’t Hit My Mum

The convention of statistics inspired me to use this and educate my audience of the seriousness of domestic violence

Using an informative real life recording of a victim asking for emergency help adds realism to the documentary

Page 24: Assignment 8 a2

E - INSPIRATION

Interview with those who have personally witnessed and been affected by domestic violence

Voiceover of Alesha Dixon talking about her childhood. This inspired me to include a voiceover of a personal story so the audience can have an emotional response to the documentary.

Page 25: Assignment 8 a2

E - INSPIRATION

I was inspired to include supporting photographs to add realism to the documentary

Interview with the presenter and a witness, this inspires me to use a more participatory approach in my documentary

Page 26: Assignment 8 a2

E - INSPIRATION

The presenter interviews a psychotherapist to discuss how domestic violence affects how children’s behaviour and personality

I got the inspiration to choose a presenter that has a relation to the topic

Page 27: Assignment 8 a2

G – CHANNEL & TIME

What channel will you put it on and why?

BBC One as they show many crime shows and documentaries such as Alesha Dixon: Don’t Hit My Mum, Silent Witness and Hustle.

What time would it be on and why?

10pm, after reviewing OFCOM and its regulations, I have found out that this is a suitable time as its after the 9 o’clock watershed. Some scenes are quite graphic and aren’t suitable for young viewers
