THE LEADERSHIP AND INNOVATION TALK

SPEAKER: DATO’ SERI SYED ZAINAL ABIDIN SYED MOHAMED TAHIR

The leadership and innovation talk was presented by Dato’ Seri Syed Zainal Abidin Syed

Mohamed Tahir, former CEO of Proton. This talk was about an ethical perspective and it was

divided into three parts whereby the first part, Dato’ Seri talks about the Qualities of Leader.

There are 10 quality that a leader must have such as the following

1. Knowledge

2. Commitment

3. Target (Aim)

4. Communication

5. Discipline

6. Innovation

7. Never give up

8. Passion

9. Charisma

10. Positive Attitude

Second part of his talk was about the holistic leadership that consist of three essential sets of

skills such as work skills, people skills and self-skills. There are 10 skills that we needed as a

leader.

1. Ma’rifah (Knowledge)

2. Niat (Intention)

3. Yaqin’ Sabr (Confidence)

4. Fasahan (Articulacy)

5. Adil (Just)

6. Tadhiyyah (Sacrifice)

7. Shukur (Grateful)

8. Takwa (Self-Restraint)

9. Leen (Compassion)

10. Shura (Consultation)

Third and Last part of the talk is about Innovative Leaders. The characteristic of an

Innovative Leaders that a leader must have are

1. Display excellent strategic vision

2. Have a strong customer focus

3. Create a climate of reciprocal trust

4. Display loyalty to the organization and customer

5. Put their faith in culture

6. Persuasive

7. Excel at setting stretch goals

8. Emphasize speed

9. Candid in their communication

10. Inspire and motivate through action
