The subject of the talk is Information theory and cryptography

In this talk we discussed about Claude E. Shannon’s approach to Information theory. we also discussed about Set theoretic Estimation and its properties and about Shannon’s Block Ciphers and its types and applications.

In this we discussed some of the algorithms like DES, AES and how to find the encrypted text without using the private or public key. DES algorithms are applied to a block of data simultaneously rather than one bit at a time. To encrypt a plaintext message, DES groups it into 64-bit blocks.

The DES, AES and many block ciphers are designed using Shannon’s idea of confusion and diffusion.

We had a discussion on information security in images and breaking the cipher by using trial and error and probability techniques.

There are two general encryption methods: Block ciphers & Stream ciphers

We discussed Cryptanalysis types

1. Cipher text only attack

2. Known plain text only attack

3. Chosen plain text attack

4. Chosen cipher text attack
