Topic : The Criteria of An Ideal Teacher

Assalamu’alaikum and best wishes,

To the lecturer who I respect, to my beloved friend, and everyone who watch this

videoconference, thank you very much to give me time so I can stand up here in front all of you

to deliver a speech.

Well, today, in this very special moment, let me stand here to deliver a speech about The Criteria

of An Ideal Teacher.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

As we know, the role of the teacher in the new millennium, not only as a disseminator of

knowledge, but also as a driving force of society and nation builders, in addition to creating a

universal interpersonal relationships. Basically the main task of a teacher is to impart knowledge,

develop skills and form the character or morals of students. In addition to the task teacher also

serves as a planner, manager, facilitator, mentor, and as a model or exemplar.

A summary of research on effective teachers by Joyce & Showers (1988) concluded that

teachers are more ideal is to teach the class as a whole, present information or skills with clear,

vibrant and carefree, ensuring their teaching task-oriented, non-evaluate and taught with calm,

have high expectations and comfortable touch with students as a result students have fewer

behavioral problems.

Ladies and gentlemen,

Among the criteria of an an ideal teacher is the role of the teacher is to apply moral

values to students. Application of these values can be done formally in the classroom and in

formal classrooms and informal during extra-curricular activities and activities outside of the

classroom. This application can be planned or done casually. The cultivation can be done when

there is spontaneous moral atmosphere that allows students to be repaired or replicated.

Therefore, teachers need to be exemplary moral behavior prior to its students so that moral

behavior is followed properly.

To have an ideal criteria of a teacher, a teacher must have a complete knowledge and

deep, flexible and easily adaptable in reform, innovation and educational change. This means

that teachers must master the skill of learning to equip themselves with knowledge and skills in

order to adapt to new roles and duties from time to time, and the social environment. Teachers

need to wisely choose what is best for children at primary level decision making. A teacher was

able to master the skills taught and have an understanding of roles and responsibilities.

In addition, teachers also need to have positive attitude towards work, which saw the

reform and innovation of education and curriculum change in a positive perspective or that can

be beneficial to themselves, students, community and country. For example: - Sensitive to

changes; aware of the needs of the country; positive Attitude toward learning, and has the task of

innovation.

Teachers also must have its aim, namely personal involvement in full earnest and with

responsibility for the implementation of his duties as a teacher at the school. Teachers must be

oriented information, which is pursuing vigorously pursuing new information related to

education through any media and so on.

Next, a visionary teacher, the foresight and vision, especially with regard to the

development of education, in order to achieve the goal of excellence in education in the new

millennium. Teachers must think global, perspective view of education is no longer limited

within the country but also globally, in order to successfully meet the challenges of education

that occurs in the process of increasing globalization in the new millennium. Teachers should be

well versed in technology education, particularly in the use of computers for teaching and

learning.

In conclusion, the criteria of an ideal teacher is the teacher who can guide and lead his

students to excel. an ideal teacher is generally not as many in the same school the number of

qualified teachers who are basically very low in school. According to Fullan (1998), the success

of educational change depends on what teachers think and do. It is closely linked with the

thinking of the teachers on the changes. By the fact, an ideal teacher must understand their own

role and the role of teachers should try to understand the other party.

Thank you .
