INTRODUCTION The Safety Instruction Sheet, Form 2693, must be completed for every new storage tank that is within the scope of Saudi Aramco Engineering Standard SAES-D-100. Form 2693 also must be prepared or revised for every storage tank that is modified. Form 2693 is completed based on the final, certified, as-built design information for the storage tank. A copy of a Safety Instruction Sheet is shown in Figure 1, and additional copies are in Course Handout 3.

USE OF SAFETY INSTRUCTION SHEET FORM 2693 Safety Instruction Sheet Form 2693 ensures that operations, maintenance, and inspection personnel have adequate and accurate information in a consistent format. These personnel use the information in the Safety Instruction Sheet to determine the primary design data and the major limiting factors for storage tanks that are to be newly installed and for existing storage tanks that are to be modified. This information concerns safe operating limits, protective devices, and any special safety precautions that are required for storage tanks.

The project manager is responsible for the preparation and issue of the Safety Instruction Sheet for new storage tanks. The actual preparation would probably be done by a contractor's storage tank engineer or project engineer; the completed form would then be reviewed by Saudi Aramco engineers.

SAES-A-005, Preparation of Safety Instruction Sheets, outlines the procedures for preparing Safety Instruction Sheets. These procedures are summarized within the Module Evaluation.

Specifically, use of Form 2693 makes it possible for operations, maintenance, and inspection personnel to get needed information from one source without reviewing many drawings. There will be, for example, situations where the detailed tank fabrication drawings must be checked to resolve questions. However, having the information on this one form reduces the need to refer to the drawings and focuses the research on the necessary items.

IDENTIFYING STORAGE TANK INFORMATION THAT IS REQUIRED FOR SAFETY INSTRUCTION SHEET FORM 2693

By the time it is necessary to complete Form 2693, all storage tank specification and design information has been determined. Also, this information has been documented in the Contractor Design Package. As mentioned above, Form 2693 is usually completed by the contractor. The information that is entered into this form is derived from the Contractor Design Package.

The following highlights several of the primary types of information that are required on Form 2693. Refer to Figure 1 or Course Handout 3.

• Equipment data for the subject storage tank is summarized in the first section of Form 2693. This section includes items such as the tank number and service, liquid specific gravity, the year the tank was built, the company that erected the tank, tank diameter and height, and design conditions.

• Operating limits are summarized in the next section of Form 2693. These limits include items such as shell course thicknesses and material, shell course retirement thicknesses, roof thickness and material, and bottom thickness and material.

• Safety precautions are summarized in the third section of Form 2693. These precautions might include any special hazards, inspections, or tests that are important for the particular tank. For example, if there was uncertainty regarding the predicted settlement, it might be recommended to take shell settlement measurements more frequently than the normal T&I intervals.

• The last section of Form 2693 provides locations for items such as the drawing number, plant number, revision, and approval information.

Sample Problem 1 - Complete a Safety Instruction Sheet Form 2693 for an Atmospheric Storage Tank

Contractor Design Package 4 in Course Handout 4 provides the final specification and design information for an atmospheric storage tank. The information that is contained in this package is directly used to complete Form 2693 for this storage tank.

Contractor Design Package 4 also contains a Form 2693 that has been completed based on information that is contained in the rest of the package. This sample readily demonstrates that Form 2693 is completed based on the final, as-built tank information that is available and that no additional tank design or calculation work is required.

SUMMARY This module has described the use of Safety Instruction Sheet Form 2693 and has identified the storage tank information that is required to complete Form 2693. Participants are now able to complete Form 2693 for an atmospheric storage tank.

This module completes the discussion of new storage tanks in this course. MEX 203.08 discusses repair or alteration requirements for existing storage tanks.
