The Pennsylvania Association of SchoolRetirees (PASR) is an independent, voluntary

membership association consisting of retiredpublic school employees (school support personnel,teachers, and administrators) who have chosento unite in retirement to promote their commoninterests and serve the multiple needs of ALLschool retirees.

PASR is governed by a volunteer board of directors,consisting of 15 individuals, elected by the membersliving in PASR’s 13 administrative regions, andsix statewide officers, elected by the delegatesattending the convention. Members of the boardof directors serve for a two-year term, except forthe treasurer and assistant treasurer. No member,including our state president, receives any compensation for the time they spend servingPASR and its members.

PASR has more than 70 local chapters that conduct the various activities and assist membersliving throughout Pennsylvania, as well as NewJersey, Maryland, Delaware, North Carolina, andFlorida.

PASR maintains its office in Mechanicsburg andemploys a small staff of seven individuals. Ourstaff is responsible for processing membershippayments, maintaining records, and providingadministrative support to the board of directors,state committees, and the region and chapterentities that comprise and operate PASR.

As an independent, autonomous association,PASR focuses exclusively on addressing the needsand promoting the interests of all retired publicschool employees, regardless of positions held ororganizational affiliations prior to retirement.PASR seeks to work cooperatively with active schoolemployee unions and professional organizations.

We encourage everyone with the means and desireto do so to continue supporting the groups thatserved them during their working lives and to joinPASR in order to promote and serve their interestsin retirement.

Founded in 1937, PASR is one of the largestorganizations in Pennsylvania and in the countryserving retired public school employees. Our mission is To serve others in need and help oneanother enjoy retirement. Some of the “others”we currently help include:

• Students pursuing careers in education• School employees seeking funding for educational programs/projects/supplies

• School employees planning for retirement• Military personnel and their families• Youth (mentoring, tutoring, afterschool programs)• School retirees in financial need or who becomeill and confined

• The poor (food banks, homeless shelters)• Community hospitals, libraries, museums, etc.

Some of our current activities to help one anotherenjoy retirement include:

• Chapter luncheons/social events serving membersfour to 12 times per year

• State and chapter RECREO (travel and tour) events

• Legislative advocacy to protect and improve pension and health benefits

• Endorsed membership benefit and service programs

• Post retirement planning and information seminars

• Quarterly PASR Newsletter and the PASR website—www.pasr.org

• PASR conventions, leadership development conferences, region general membership meetings
