Regardless of campaign fatigue or personal political preferences, I trust you will all exercise your right to choose leaders for our Nation. There are many today who feel disconnected from Washington, that they do not feel represented. There is a saying that “we get the leadership we deserve”. The same is true of your local ASQ Section. If more, and more capable members made themselves available to serve as your leaders, what might ASQ be able to provide its members? Although our membership numbers in the hundreds, the average Section meeting only numbers in the 20’s, and the number of elected and volunteers leaders something less than that. As we prepare for a new season of leadership for the country, I challenge all of our members to consider what they have to offer their fellow members, their organizations, and ASQ by volunteering as a member leader in the coming year. I know most of you will read this and find a reason not to volunteer. But those who do will make a difference for all of us. Which one are you? Dear Illiana Section Members,

As you read this, the national election is right around the corner, or taking place. November Meeting

Date: November 13, 2012

Location: Smokey Barque 20 Kansas Street Frankfort, IL

TIME: 6:15 P.M. --- Registration 6:30 P.M. --- Dinner 7:30 P.M. --- Program

Cost: $25.00

SPEAKER: Stuart Kleven

Topic: “Recovery and Restoration of the Confederate Submarine, The Hunley”

The Confederacy, during the Civil War, was one of the first to use a submarine in naval warfare. The Hunley was pressed into action to break the Union blockade of Charleston harbor. It sank during a battle and was recently recovered over 130 years later. Nondestructive testing was used to evaluate the structure prior to and during restoration. This presentation will highlight some of the methods used and the progress of the work being performed on the submarine. The work on the Hunley has been the focus of several National Geographic TV specials and magazine articles. A made for TV movie also re-created the events of the Hunley a couple years ago.

NOTE: Attend the presentation to be entered into a drawing to win prizes.

Must be present to win. Drawing for prizes will take place after the presentation.

Please RSVP no later than Thursday, November 08, 2012 Submit reservation online at http://www.asq-Illiana.org, or send an email to [email protected]
