issues. Fixed penalty notices and fines for unauthorised absences.

When the going gets tough…

Maintaining motivation and encouraging persistence

Key tasks for pupils•Don’t stop working in lessons that you find hard.

•Revise your homework schedule if necessary and stick to it – even if you don’t feel like it.•Resist the temptation to bury your head in the sand – talk to someone

•Ignore what your friends or others are saying they are doing – you are working for your life•Keep yourself going by – making a list!!!!!!

Tips for parents•Agree the balance between work and social life.

•When it goes pear shaped talk to them about the issues – berating will have a negative effect.•Consider a reward structure – little and often is more rewarding.

•Be flexible•If they say they have no homework ……………chances are it is not true.

•If your child is anxious or withdrawn, encourage them to talk to you or another trusted adult.•Teenagers often have an all or nothing ‘catastrophic’ approach to difficulties, again encourage

them to talk to you or a trusted adult.

Revision – re-looking at work you lave learnt previously.Start revision early

Make a realistic revision timetable and rope your parents into helping you create it.

Get one good revision aide for each subject.Keep everything you need in one place.

Go to the revision sessions and make them work for you.Find out about the best revision techniques for that subject.

Have a start and finish time and stick to them.Get into the routine of your revision plan

Stop and take a break.Don’t be influenced by friends who talk about how little they are doing.

Tips for parentsTalk to your child about how you can help

Provide the pens etc that they need, is it really worth a battle over a 10p pen.

Support them in sticking to their revision planMake them take a break

Praise themProvide snacks and water.

Be flexible, if a change is made agree when they are going to make it up.
