By consult, we mean that We will keep you and other identified stakeholders
informed, listen to and acknowledge your concerns and aspirations, and provide feedback on how your input was used to influence the final decision

The opening of Dr. Roberta Bondar School provides an opportunity to review the school designations for students K-9 living in the community of Aspen Woods and StrathconaPark (West of 69th St).

Why we are here today
Current Situation
Currently K-9 students from Aspen Woods / Strathcona are designated to 4 different schools, 3 elementary schools (K-GR6) and 1 junior high (GR7-9).

Long term capital plan
Long term plan for the K-GR9 learning continuum is a K-4 at Dr. Roberta Bondar with yet to be approved middle school which would accommodate students in GR5-9.
Currently, the middle school for the community has been requested through our 3 Year School Capital Plan 2016-2019 and it is ranked as 19th on the new school construction priority list.
Community rankings are revised annually to reflect demographic trends and changes in student populations.

Dr. Roberta Bondar School
The new school was approved as an elementary school. We have two accommodation concepts to consider:
• K-GR 4 at Dr. Roberta Bondar School and continue with GR5-6 going Olympic Heights School and moving to Vincent Massey School for GR7-9
• Designate K-GR6 to Dr. Roberta Bondar School and maintain GR7-9 at Vincent Massey School.
