Introduction First of all, we are pleased to present the 2017 Wine Collection in a brand new format, especially designed and created with the help of our professional bookbinder Glenn Malkin, who has crafted our new cover to an exact specification. At Askham Hall we aim to provide quality wines expressive of each region they represent. This is all made possible by Charles Lowther, whose unbridled passion for wine allows us to track down wines of distinct character and bring to you a list that displays a cross-section of the ever expanding and amazing World of Wine. And although we cover the majority of the World’s wine growing countries, we are especially proud of our selection of old world classic wines, notably Bordeaux and Burgundy, and hope to enthral with our vintages dating back to 1893 (Clos de Gamot, Cahors). To help with this collection we are lucky enough to have access to some of the treasures of the Lowther family’s private cellar. Nothing excites us more than sharing our passion for wine so please don’t have any hesitation in asking advice or questions regarding your selection and we will happily recommend something to suit your taste, budget and, most importantly, Chef Richard’s menu. To help with your selection, we have arranged all our sub-sections in ascending price order apart from the Bordeaux Reds, where we take you from 1916 to 2012. If perhaps there’s a wine you have been fond of in the past and haven’t been able to find on our list we would love to hear about it and could always try to source it for your return visit. Introduction

First of all, we are pleased to present the 2017 Wine Collection in a brand new format, especially designed and created with the help of our professional bookbinder Glenn Malkin, who has crafted our new cover to an exact specification.

At Askham Hall we aim to provide quality wines expressive of each region they represent. This is all made possible by Charles Lowther, whose unbridled passion for wine allows us to track down wines of distinct character and bring to you a list that displays a cross-section of the ever expanding

and amazing World of Wine.

If perhaps there’s a wine you have been

fond of in the past and haven’t been able to find on our list we would love to hear about it and could always try to source it for your return visit.

Wines available by the Glass  The Champagne we offer by the glass is from the privately owned house of Joseph Perrier. The Cuvée Royale is named in honour of

Queen Victoria and Edward VII, to whom Joseph Perrier was an appointed supplier. Jean Claude Fourmon is the current MD and great grandson of Paul Pithois who purchased the Perrier family business in the 1800’s.

Joseph Perrier Cuvée Royale Brut, Châlons-en-Champagne 12% 125ml 12.50

Please ask to find out our selection of White, Red and Dessert wine available by the glass. We try to offer a diverse selection, changing the offering as often as possible to accompany the changing menu of Chef Richard. We would be very happy to assist you in your selection and find a wine to accompany what you have chosen from the menu and suit your preferred style. If you take our tasting menu a matching wine flight is available for £35.

We are very proud to use the Coravin wine opening system here at Askham Hall. This is a device which allows us to open wine without taking the cork out, which in turn enables us to pour a glass of any wine over a long period of time and not risk the wine losing any of its qualities.

Below is our current selection but we have the ability to open far more wines from the cellar if you would like. Look out for our Port selection at the end of the list, where we serve all our bottles by the glass. All our wines served by Coravin are a 100ml measure.

Cigar Selection

There is no place finer to enjoy a cigar than here at Askham Hall considering the history made by the 5th Earl of Lonsdale (The Yellow Earl). He would spend £500 a week on cigars and lent his name to a completely new international size of cigar, aptly named the Lonsdale.

May we gently remind you that all cigars must be smoked outside.

While a connoisseur of wine might agree the superiority of one vintage year over another and one vineyard over another, it would be an extreme act of prejudice to award the crown of supremacy to any one wine. With cigars, however, there is no second opinion. Indisputably the best cigars come from Cuba and are named after its capital city, Havana. An Havana cigar eclipses an ordinary one as a bottle of first growth Claret eclipses a common, everyday wine.

Montecristo Joyita 10.00 Havana, delicate aromas give a mild to full flavour.   Cohiba Panatela 12.00 Havana, Fidel Castro’s original brand favourite, medium to full bodied.

Trinidad Reyes 14.00 A rare cigar which offers an approachable and well-rounded style with a distinct hint of richness.   H. Upmann Gran Coronas 18.00 Havana, mild to medium smoke, very smooth and subtle.   Cohiba Siglo II 25.00 Havana, Fidel Castro’s original brand favourite, medium to full bodied.   Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure No 2 28.00 Havana, mellow complexity and richness is the hallmark here, medium to full.   Partagas Serie D No 4 30.00 Havana, rich, earthy and full flavoured.   Bolivar Lonsdale 35.00 No need really to introduce the Yellow Earl Lord Lonsdale’s favourite who gave his name to this very particular size. Full bodied, gives the ultimate smoke.
