In 838 King Egbert of Essex held a Great Council at All Saints in Kingston and established the relationship between Crown and Church which has shaped our national history to the present day. In the tenth century the first King of All England (Athelstan) was anointed and crowned here, along with other Saxon Kings, before even Westminster Abbey was built, and a Coronation Stone remains in Kingston to this day.

Today, the Church’s location in the centre of Kingston provides a community space in the heart of this retail hub, offering a refuge to the “hidden poor”, attracted to the town, yet often excluded from it.

We have an ambitious plan to restore the Church and provide new facilities that will enable it once again to be the hub of the community, as it was 1,000 years ago. The total cost is £7.7 million

of which we have already raised £2 million, including grants from the Heritage Lottery Fund and the Mayor of London’s Outer London Fund.

AngelsHidden in the nave are 18 Angels, who have watched over the long and prestigious history of this historic building. We now need our own host of angels, from Cherubs to Archangels to ensure that the vibrant life of All Saints Kingston continues for the next 1,000 years.

Become a Cherub from £100 and we will thank you with a print of a Cherub from a local artist, invite you to the celebratory launch party and

Kingston is one of the most important places in our nation’s history.

Community Building We plan to erect a new two-storey community building on our north lawn to provide a range of projects and social enterprises designed to create a community heart at the centre of this very retail-focused town.

The Church We plan to re-configure the church and provide facilities (such as new heating, lighting and even two new toilets!) to provide a practical and welcoming space for groups and families to use as well as bring to life and tell the story of the great Saxon kings and the long and glorious history of Kingston.
