What happens after the cremation ?

After the cremation, the ashes or cremated remains are placed in their final

resting place according to the instructions given by the applicant for cremation (the

applicant being the person who completed the cremation forms).

Ashes may be collected by the funeral director, the applicant, or person named by the applicant. They can also be scattered in our Gardens of Remembrance or interred. Collection is often favoured if the applicant and family are unsure of where the final

resting place should be.

Making the decision of the final resting place should not be rushed please consider

your options carefully.

Gardens of Remembrance

The Gardens of Remembrance at Reading Crematorium exist as a permanent memorial to

all those resting here. This offers a tranquil and natural surrounding including meadow,

coppice and orchard habitats. A traditional lychgate marks the entrance to the Gardens

where flowering fruit trees blossom in spring. Light and graceful Laburnum produce

glorious sprays of yellow flowers and vibrant scarlet and orange clusters of crab apples

arrive in summer- evergreens, birches and spring bulbs guarantee colour in abundance all

year long.

Scattering

Scattering of ashes can take place any time after cremation. Family can choose to witness the scattering should they wish. We can also reunite your loved one with other family members who may have been previously laid to rest in our gardens, if you provide us with

the person’s name and date of death.

If you chose for your loved one to be laid to rest in our

Gardens of Remembrance following cremation

this will take place 14 days after the service.

The final resting place will be recorded in our

register.

To book a scattering call us or visit the office and we will assist you with any

questions you may have.

The decision on the final resting place for a loved one should not be rushed, so

please take time to reflect on what is right for you and your loved one. In provid-

ing these memorial options for you, we hope that you will have a personal place

where you can visit and reflect on precious memories.

We recommend you visit the grounds to consider the various options available.

Burying Ashes

Our ashes graves commemorated with a desk tablet are for

two. We place the ashes into a biodegradable container

supplied by us, however, you may purchase a wooden casket

or other container from your funeral director if preferred.

Alternatively we can inter in an existing family grave

providing there is space and the registered grave owner

gives permission.

Trees and Benches

A variety of trees have been planted in our Gardens of Remembrance to provide an

organic natural memorial these trees may be leased by families. Memorial benches

have been placed in our Gardens of Remembrance and around the cemetery. A

plaque with a fitting tribute may also be ordered and fitted to the backrest of the

bench. We will try to accommodate your request to place a bench in your chosen lo-

cation but this may not always be possible and

we therefore offer an alternative suitable loca-

tion.

Please note that although benches are placed

for you to sit and reflect, other visitors are also

able to use them.

Memorial Beds

Raised Memorial Beds come in different shapes these

beds may be leased according to availability. We plant

and maintain statement shrubs as well providing a

bronze stem plaque. Families can then choose to plant

and maintain seasonal bedding plants and bulbs.
