A b o u t t h e A r t i s t s Who would have thought that a six-year-old boy, who was casually strumming the mandolin at a musical party, would grow up to be the youngest ever artist to have performed at the Festival of India in Paris? At the age of 16, U. Shrinivas did just that. The music that he produced on the little brittle mandolin was unbelievably
classical to the core, throwing into the shade even the top instrumentalists.
Following public recognition and acceptance in 1983, the next years of this won-der boy were spent in touring the world extensively, enchanting his audience with the youthful vigor and expertise that are his hallmarks. His concerts were highly acclaimed and he was showered with many prestigious awards. It was popularly felt... "If music is God's gift to man,
U.Shrinivas is God's gift to music".
Tutored under the guidance of his father and brother, U. Rajesh started playing Carnatic Classical Music on Mandolin at the young age of 6. Since then he has been performing extensively in India and Abroad both alone and along with his brother, U. Shrinivas. He has also performed along with great artists like Ustad
Zakir Hussain, Vikku Vinayakaram etc.
S. V. Ramani is a well-known Ghatam (clay pot percussion) artist who gave his debut performance when he was only eight years old. He re-ceived his early training under Guruvayur Dorai. Ramani has accompanied leading Carnatic Musicians for the past 28 years and has been a member of Mandolin Shrinivas ensemble since 1999. Ghatam is one of the oldest percussion instruments of South India. Ghatam is a specially designed clay pot, usually made of a mixture of clay baked with brass or copper fillings
and a small amount of iron fillings.
“Wah Ustad Wah!”, exclaimed tabla maestro Ustad Zakir Hussain as the child prodigy matched his Guru beat for beat in the Taj Mahal tea advertisement. The year was 1991. The ‘Wah Taj’ boy has come a long way since then. Groomed by Ustads Allarakha & Zakir Hussain since he was 5, Aditya Kalyanpur is one of the most promising torchbearers of the Punjab Gharana. Bold and clear execution of syllables, pinpoint precision in rhythm and a colossal repertoire of compositions
make Aditya’s concerts a joy for the layman and the aficionado.
“Service to Humanity is Service to God” is the guiding spirit behind Shree Ramana Maharishi Academy for the Blind (SRMAB), a vol-untary organization working with people with various disabilities and the socially deprived. The journey of Shree Ramana Maharishi Academy for the Blind (SRMAB) over the last three and a half decades has been noth-ing short of phenomenal. Started in 1968, the academy today has five branches and more than 9 projects, providing services in the field of health, education and socio-economic rehabilitation to disabled people in suburban and rural areas of Karnataka. The Academy's dance troupe has
performed in major towns in India and abroad. SRMAB has been honored with the National Award
for the Welfare of the Handicapped and have been recognized in the Limca Book of Records.
