Dear Parishioners, Ash Wednesday is on February 17th. We will be celebrating Mass at 8:30 and 12:00 noon, and 7:00 PM. Because of Covid-19, the Holy Father, Pope Francis, is asking parishes around the world to follow the centuries-old Roman Tradition of sprinkling ashes on the foreheads of the faithful, without touching them. We appreciate your understanding as the ashes may not stick neatly on the forehead in the shape of a cross. The main symbolism is still valid, namely, “Remember you are dust, and unto dust you will return.” A little cup of blessed ashes will be available for those who would like to take ashes home to their family members who are not attending Mass. Feel free to drop off your old palms from last year. We will have a basket in the gathering area of the church throughout lent. They will be burned in the fire at the Easter Vigil. At this point, we are planning on having the parish Fish Fry on Fridays during Lent. We will limit the menu. We are hoping for pre-ordering to help us calculate our needs. After two weeks, we will re-assess whether we will continue the Fish Fry this year. We will be offering the Stations of the Cross each Friday in Lent. We will pray them after the morning Mass and in the evening at 7:00 PM. Feel free to join us! During Lent, we usually have a swelling of the number of people attending Mass. We are also anticipating that people who have their second vaccination will feel more comfortable attending Mass again, which will increase our numbers. We will keep a careful watch on the capacity issues in our church building. If there is a need, we may be adding an additional Mass to the schedule or begin an “overflow” Mass in the “Old Church,” or the Multi Purpose Room.

New Parish Photo Directory!

We have begun scheduling for our new parish photo directory book that we will be getting this year. Photos will be taken the first two

weeks of March. You will be able to schedule your time to get your picture taken after Mass or online. The company we have selected to

do our directory has taken many safety precautions to account for COVID-19. Ensuring that everyone is safe and

comfortable is their number one priority. This is a great opportunity to get a family portrait taken. If you have any questions or would like to

Franciscan Sisters, TOR Lenten Retreat

The Franciscan Sisters, TOR are excited to invite you to our annual Lenten Retreat, held virtually on

Saturday, March 27th. Our theme is Into Your Hands, Father, focusing on trust and

abandonment to our Heavenly Father, seen in the life of Jesus and our own lives! The retreat will offer talks, testimonies, music, meditations, and

optional small groups led by a sister. Our sisters will also share short video reflections

during Lent, leading up to the retreat, on our Facebook page and Youtube channel, and offer

weekly small groups. If you’d like to participate in our weekly small groups, register on our

website by Sunday, February 14. More information about the Lenten Retreat can be found on our webpage under Events. Registration for both the small groups and the retreat itself will

also be found at that link. There is no fee to register, but registration is required by

“TEA with Jesus” Lenten Bible Study Join us for Tea and Bible Study as we pray our way

through Lent. Classes will meet in person, in Twinhaven, from 9:15-10:30 am. Mark your

calendar for 2/15, 2/22, 3/1, 3/8, 3/15, 3/22, and 3/29. This will take us from just before Ash Wednesday

through Holy Week. Participants will receive a Lenten Journey booklet to create their own Lenten plans for growing ever so much closer to the sacred heart of

Jesus! For those interested in a virtual option, you can join us via GoToMeeting, and the link will be posted on

Baby Bassinet To everyone who has ever given to and to

those who are still giving various baby items for the baby bassinet. THANK YOU!! For those interested in giving, there is a list of

items in the bassinet that is preferred, however, many personal items that are for the moms living at Zelie's Home (the new name

for Maggie's Place) are welcome too. Womankind and Zelie's Home are so

very grateful to all of you!! They are always so amazed at the continued generosity of our parishioners. They would love to meet you

and I would enjoy taking you with me when I go to drop of the many wonderful baby items that get donated. If anyone would like to go

work out a time that would best for us to go.

Brothers and sisters: If I preach the gospel, this is no reason for me to boast, for an obligation has been imposed on me, and woe to me if I do not preach it! If I do so willingly, I have a recompense, but if unwillingly, then I have been entrusted with a stewardship. What then is my recompense? That, when I preach, I offer the gospel free of charge so as not to make full use of my right in the gospel. Although I am free in regard to all, so as to win over as many as possible. To the weak I became weak, to win over the weak. I have become all things to all, to save at least some. All this I do for the sake of the gospel, so that I too may have a share in it.

Gospel Mark 1:29-39

On leaving the synagogue Jesus entered the house if Simon and Andrew with James and John. Simon’s mother-in-law lay sick with a fever. They immediately told him about her. He approached, grasped her hand, and helped her up. Then the fever left her and she waited on them.

When it was evening, after sunset, they brought to him all who were ill or possessed by demons. The whole town was gathered at the door. He cured many who were sick with various diseases, and he drove out many demons, not permitting them to speak because they knew him.

Rising very early before dawn, he left and went off to a deserted place, where he prayed. Simon and those who were will him pursued him and on finding him said, “Everyone is looking for you.” He told them, “Let us go on to the nearby villages that I may preach there also. For this purpose have I come.” So he went into their synagogues, preaching and driving out demons throughout the whole of Galilee.

The Creed

I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.
