CONCERN ON STP WHAT ARE THE PROBLEMS ON THE EXISTING STP’S?

BOD/COD Effluent Failure.

Poor SMELL/ODOR from the STP.

Excess SLUDGE disposals. Require regular sludge removal.

Difficult to MAINTAIN due to many electrical & mechanical equipments.

High investment and operating COST.

Require regular addition of NUTRIENTS for the STP.

WHY THE CONVENTIONAL STP’S FAILED TO PERFORM?

Wrong design and selection of STP.

High Fluctuation of wastewater flow rate to STP.

Complex influent type such as Oil & Grease, Chemicals, Soap, Detergents etc.

Failure of Bacteria culture in STP.

Poor or no maintenance.

Page 8: ASET Profile LATEST

Good STP must be designed to take care of

the bacteria. Bacteria is used to process the

sewage and to convert to clean water.

There are 5 basic needs of bacteria.

1. Place for Bacteria to grow up.

2. Oxygen

3. Food

4. Temperature

5. Neutral pH
