 AS#ANCs Treaty of Amity and &ooperation in Southeast Asia is open for non=AS#AN states toaccede. 3t reLuires the contracting parties to forgo any threat or use of force against each other.

restricted to parties to the treaty. On 8 August 1967, five leaders - the Foreign Ministers of Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, ingapore

Asian *ations +AA* "as %orn) !he five Foreign Ministers "ho signed it - Ada# Mali' of Indonesia,

*ar(iso .) .a#os of the Philippines, !un A%dul .a/a' of Malaysia, ) .a0aratna# of ingapore, and

!hanat ho#an of !hailand - "ould su%se2uently %e hailed as the Founding Fathers of pro%a%ly the

#ost su((essful inter-govern#ental organi/ation in the developing "orld today) And the do(u#ent that

they signed "ould %e 'no"n as the AA* $e(laration)
