SKILL BUILDING PLAN (SBP)
7/10/2017
3
>www.dpw.state.pa.us >www.dhs.pa.gov
• Needed a systematic way to outline how to teach participant skills
• Through focus groups and provider meetings, CS shared they are not in a position to write plans to teach skills
• Our experiences demonstrated that providers want a “template” to follow so BAS expectations are clear.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
7/10/2017
20
>www.dpw.state.pa.us >www.dhs.pa.gov
• SSB is essentially a service which ALL participants could benefit from in a variety of ways, similar to CS.
• If SSB and CS services are both on the participant’s plan, the expectation is that they will have the SAME goals/objectives, but SSB will take the lead to develop SBPs, which includes the GAS chart.
SSB reports in GAS format for MPN/QSR; CS reports anecdotally, not in GAS format for MPN.
SSB
>www.dpw.state.pa.us >www.dhs.pa.gov
GAS Training and Qualifications
• Announcement sent through list-serv on 3/22/17 outlining requirements to get qualified
• 1 person from every agency (at minimum) or anyone who will create GAS charts
• If you already met SSB qualifications, you do NOT need to receive GAS qualification
But, highly recommended you at least view this training as it is more comprehensive.

21

GAS Training and Qualifications
• SCs (and other services who do not develop goals/objectives and monitor progress are NOT required to get qualified)
You may still take the training, but please do not submit a sample GAS chart!
>www.dpw.state.pa.us >www.dhs.pa.gov
SCs Role with GAS
• SCs received training in August (3 sessions were held) and again in October which outlined their responsibilities

22

SCs Role with GAS
• Ensure goals/objectives are in correct format and linked to right services
• Enter QSRs into HCSIS in new GAS format
>www.dpw.state.pa.us >www.dhs.pa.gov
What Will Happen on July 1 with GAS
• GAS will get implemented for ALL participants
• More communication to come, but in general:
GAS chart should be ready to go at each participants next ARP. So, if participant’s PED is not until November 3rd, then GAS will not be implemented until then. But use the time to plan ahead!
7/10/2017
23
>www.dpw.state.pa.us >www.dhs.pa.gov
• Evaluate what was previously implemented to determine if/how it is appropriate to continue with that plan or develop a new plan.
• It is not expected to start with a clean slate, nor is it expected to simply replicate what was previously done.
• Just like BSS, SSB Plan Development is completed one time. Any additional revisions or new plans will be completed using Consult.
When Participant Changes Providers, what happens?
>www.dpw.state.pa.us >www.dhs.pa.gov
• BAS recommends that the quarters are completed. If the participant meets the goals/ objectives, the SBS could consider them to be in the “maintenance” stage.
This ensures that they have mastered the goal/ objective and are continuing to meet it, prior to ending it completely.
• Goals/objectives should be re-prioritized every year and changed as needed

PRE
• The PRE is part of the assessment protocol and a new one should be completed within 90 days of the Plan Effective Date, just like any other assessment.
• If you submit a PRE and believe you made a mistake, email the Provider Support Mailbox FIRST!
>www.dpw.state.pa.us >www.dhs.pa.gov
PRE
• When answering questions, if it seems more than one answer seems appropriate (e.g. frequency and severity), consider the bigger picture for how it is impacting the participant’s life
• Do not administer WITH the participant or his/her family!
Information needed to complete it should be gathered BEFORE you complete the PRE

How to ensure you have all the information to do your job as a provider
• Have you visited the ASERT website (www.paautism.org)?
– Did you create profiles for the participants you support?
– Did you sign up to receive the ASERT monthly newsletter?
– Do you follow ASERT on Facebook or twitter?
• Are you signed up on BAS list-servs (all providers and SC specific)?
– Are you receiving Admin Notices and Communications via the list-serv?
• Do you visit the online training platform (www.myodp.org) and save all pertinent documents and watch trainings? Do you participate in live training opportunities?
• Do you communicate with the Regional and Clinical Reps to ask questions and share participant concerns?
If you have questions on any of the above, please contact the Provider Support Mailbox ([email protected])
