Message from the Principal & Development Director

Dear Friends of Agia Sophia Academy,

Welcome to ASA’s first ever Gala and Auction event celebrating our 9th year of operation! We are so pleased that you are here with us tonight. On behalf of the staff and students of Agia Sophia Academy, we want to thank you for your past and current support of our school. We are thankful for the role that you play in our community.

As we look forward to the physical growth and expansion of our school, we want to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for helping mold ASA into a strong, vibrant, and loving place for children to learn. Whether you have been with us from the beginning, or whether you are just joining us now, your participation in our efforts is helping us make our dream of becoming a premier PreK-8th grade school a reality.

Please enjoy this evening, and raise your paddles high!

With Love in Christ,

Elisha Lubliner Christiana HillierPrincipal Development Director

Message from the Auction Chairs

Dear Parents & Friends of Agia Sophia Academy,

It is our great pleasure to welcome you to Agia Sophia Academy’s Around the World Auction & Gala. Together with our planning com-mittee we are so excited that you are joining us this evening to celebrate and support our school.

Over the many months it has taken us to prepare for tonight we have learned how generous, gracious, faithful and community-minded each of you are. You have offered your time, talent, advice and resources to help make this evening possible. Our heartfelt thanks goes out to each and every one of you.

The proceeds from tonight’s auction will help fund several strategic ini-tiatives that will support the growth of Agia Sophia Academy. Thanks to our sponsors and donors, tonight’s event is completely underwrit-ten. This means that 100% of the money we raise will go towards the building fund for our future Pre-K through 8th grade school, as well as towards projects to increase our current classrooms and student body.

So, enjoy tonight’s festivities – the food, the fun and the fundraising. Raise your paddles high and have a great time!

In His Service,

Genie Kaady Mary TriantafillouCo-Chair Co-Chair

Carson reached his largest audience one year earlier when he did his internship for the then NBC show “Late Night with David Letterman.” In total, Carson made four appearances on the Letterman show in the late 80s to 1990. Carson loves the Oregon coast, the Cascades, the Gorge and of course the high desert of central Oregon. His hobbies include golfing, running, biking, swimming, hiking and avoiding lawn work. Carson has a beautiful wife and three good-looking kids -- two daughters and one son.

Tonight’s variety of World Music is provided by DJ Kypros from Seattle.

REGISTRATIONGuests wishing to bid must be registered at the check in desk to secure their bidding number. Only bids of registered bidders will be honored in either the Silent or Oral auctions. A signature on the silent bid sheet is binding upon the bidder.

SILENT AUCTIONThe silent auction begins at 5:30 pm and closes at 7:30 pm. At check in, you will be assigned a bid number. When bidding on a silent auction item, please carefully print your bid number and name next to your bid amount. Silent auction bids must be in whole dollar amounts and must meet the starting bid and increase requirements. Bids that do not meet these requirements will be disqualified. An assigned auction team member will act as the final authority and determine the winning bidder by circling the closing bid. This decision is final. Winning bidders will be given an itemized invoice of purchased items when checking out. Checkout opens at 9:00 pm, and will close at 11:00 pm.

LIVE AUCTIONThe bidding for the Live Auction will begin during dinner. It will continue until all items have been sold.

To bid on an item during the live auction, simply hold your bid card high. Continue to hold the card in the air until the auctioneer (with the help of a spotter) confirms the bid amount and the bid number. The auctioneer will determine the highest and final bid.

Winning bidders will be given an itemized list of purchased items when checking out. Please present your receipt at the registration station to pick up your purchase(s). Checkout and distribution open at 9:00 pm, and will close at 11:00 pm.

Frequently Asked

Questions

Page 18: ASA Gala Auction Catalog -- May 11th, 2013

WHAT IS THE WALL OF WINE? During the Silent Auction, for only $20, you may choose a “mystery bottle” of red or white wine to take home with you. Tonight’s Wall of Wine was generously donated by Moe Achour of Al Amir Restaurant, Ted Papas, and Uptown Billiards.

WHAT IS A SIGN-UP PARTY?Sign-up parties are a great way to participate in unique social experiences with others. You may purchase as many spots as you wish – sign up per person, one name per line on the bid sheets. Parties fill up fast!

WHAT IS THE GREEN LINE RAFFLE?You’ll notice the green lines on the Silent Auction bidder sheets. Here’s how it works. Any person who places his/her bidder number on any green line and ONLY a green line, will be entered into a drawing to win a 4-day, 3-night getaway to Pacific City. If someone outbids you for that Silent Auction item, no worries, you’re still in the drawing. If you definitely want to take that item to go home with you, simply place your bidder number on the Green Line and the “Buy It Now” line. That way you’re guaranteed to take that item home AND still have the opportunity to win that Green Line Drawing! Good Luck!Pacific City Getaway details: 4 days, 3 nights in a 3 bedroom, 2 full baths, 2 story home. Sleeps eight comfortably. Five minute walk to the beach. Dates mutually agreed upon. Restrictions: No pets allowed. No smoking. Blackout dates: June 1 - Sept 30th. Thanks to Brian & Melanie Santa Maria.

WHAT IS THE HEADS OR TAILS GAME?Heads and Tails is an exciting game where the winner will take home a cash prize. Anyone who wants to play must purchase at least one strand of mardi gras beads before we begin. When the game starts, the Auctioneer will ask everyone who’s playing to stand up. He will then ask you to place your hands on your head OR your tail (your bottom). He will flip a coin and if it lands on your choice, you’ll keep your beads and you’re still in the game; if not, you’ll remove a strand of beads. Each strand is an opportunity to play the game. The last person standing, with at least one strand of beads, is our winner! Good Luck!

ITEM 13: POLICE OFFICER FOR A DAY

If you’ve ever wanted a front row seat to an episode of COPS or Southland, now is your big chance to ride shotgun with a real Hillsboro police officer on the date and time of your choosing.

The package includes a department tour, 2 to 8 hours in a patrol car with a partner officer, and…wait for it….a free badge sticker! This is a good chance to better understand the police and the challenges they face and to also make some friends in blue. You must be 18 years of age and free of an arrest history if you would like to ride solo and have the experience of responding to real emergencies. Custom tours and rides can be coordinated for anyone under the age of 18, with the opportunity to ride in an off-duty police car, meet other cops and a police dog. Bid now, bid big!

Thanks to Lieutenant Michael Rouches and the Hillsboro Police Dept.
