Seek the Lord
Our first reading today from the prophet Isaiah reminds us that the Lord is near. He is not far away or
in some place where He cannot be reached. He is close to His people, and definitely wants us to come close to
Him. Isaiah calls us to conversion. We are asked to put aside evil things and embrace what is good and holy.
If anyone would say that he or she is too bad, too unworthy, too sinful to receive God’s love and mercy, they
should remember what Isaiah says: “Let him turn to the Lord for mercy; to our God, who is generous in
forgiving.” (Isaiah 55:7) Let us turn to the Lord. Let us seek Him out as He is nearby waiting for us to come
to Him. When we are close to the Lord, there will be peace in our lives. Let us embrace Him while He is near!
Father David
Our New Deacon: Mike Fitzpatrick
As you know, as of August 22, our parish has a new deacon, Deacon Mike Fitzpatrick. He was
ordained a permanent deacon August 22 at the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus in Joliet. I am pleased
that he will minister here using the many gifts God has blessed him with. We congratulate him as he begins
his ministry here at St. James the Apostle Parish. Let us keep him in our prayers as well. Many of you already
know Mike and his wife, Dawn, as they have been involved in many parish activities over the years.
Father David
Thank You!
I wish to thank all those parishioners who continue to support the parish in these difficult and
challenging times. You truly practice good stewardship and it is greatly appreciated. I also thank all those
volunteers who help at each of our liturgies with registration, set up and ushering. It is heartening to know
that even though some things look different, there are still people who hear the call to serve and respond. May
God bless you all!
Father David

A Prayer for Catechists
Loving Father, we pray today for our catechists. We thank you for their gift of ministry in your Church.
Grant them your wisdom that they may grow in the understanding and teaching of your Word.
Grant them also your love that they may be fruitful heralds of your Word and lead others to love you.
Pour forth your Holy Spirit upon them to grant them wisdom about what is important; knowledge of the truths of faith; understanding of their meaning;
right judgment about how to apply them in life; courage to persevere even in the face of adversity;
reverence before all that is sacred and holy; and that loving zeal which leads others to a transforming encounter with your Son.
We pray this through Christ, our Lord. Amen.

A Prayer for our Bishop Elect, Most Reverend Ronald Hicks
On September 29th, our Bishop Elect, Most Reverend Ronald Hicks will be installed as our new bishop. Let us pray for him as we await this celebration of great joy!
Eternal God, our Shepherd and Guide
We bless and thank you for the appointment of your servant, Bishop Elect Ronald Hicks as the sixth Bishop of the Diocese of Joliet.
May your Holy Spirit grace him
with the gifts of wisdom and strength, gentleness and compassion,
as he prepares to take up his role as our Bishop.
May he be a shepherd after your own heart, who will walk in your ways and,
with loving care, watch over your people.
As he prepares to make his home among us, may we welcome him joyfully into our Diocesan community,
now entrusted to his care and leadership.
May we, as the Body of Christ in the Diocese of Joliet,
through our work and prayer together bear witness to Christ
and the building up of your kingdom.
We ask this through your Son Jesus Christ, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
One God, for ever and ever. Amen.

s most of you know the St. James the Apostle Knights of Columbus Council #5806 participates in the annual ID (Tootsie Roll) Drive and solicits donations one weekend in September out on the streets of Glen Ellyn. The donations are forwarded on to state approved charities that rely on donations to conduct their services to those in need, specifically the intellectually disabled (ID) population. The charities that our council donates to are local.
This year’s ID drive will take place on the weekend of September 18 - 20, but in a much compromised form due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Although some Knights will be out on the streets that weekend, you can also help our cause by ordering Tootsie Rolls directly from the Knights.
For a donation of $10, you can get a box of 50 Tootsie Rolls. These Tootsie Rolls would make a great Trick of Treat gift this Halloween. If this appeals to you, please contact Ray Klein at (630) 858-1237or [email protected]. Ray will get your Tootsie Rolls to you and collect your donation. Cash will be accepted, but you can also write a check made out to Knights of Columbus Charities.
Helping the Knights in this way will give you the satisfaction of supporting some of the neediest of God’s children.
