As Media Preliminary Task Evaluation

Overall, I feel preparation and time could have of been a huge beneficial factor for me if I took both into more important consideration. I feel that I didn’t let other member of GoodFella Films let their input be heard within the group. I also felt that I took charge of the screenplay, and so didn’t make it clear to our group what the actual plan for our film will be. This caused confusion for all of us. On the other hand, drawing and labeling what type of shots to use for a scene on the screenplay really helped us visualize what we all wanted from the preliminary task.

During the photography process of taking pictures of set locations, I missed 2 shot locations, from which I fixed later on in the task.

How did you find your Pre-production work

flow?

To keep to our screenplay we wanted the most suitable props and equipments to use in our video. We borrowed 2 Cricket bats from the PE area and our teachers car.

To film our preliminary task we used an apple iPad. We thought this would be the best way of recording our video as it would mean an easier way of transferring the video clips, therefore less time consuming. Although the iPad wasn’t suitable for stable shots such as close up shots, I feel it added to the mood and atmosphere of the whole video, I of course am referring to the following of one of the characters through the hallway.

Definitely... I left the filming of our preliminary task very last minute, and so some sections of our screenplay did not make the cut. But this is something I can learn from for the future (Time is important, keep to a schedule). I feel this affected the editing process as my final cut didn’t exactly meet my expectations of where I wanted our task to go.

Problems with Filming?

During the process of editing my preliminary task I didn't seem to get the hang of the iMovie software, I had trouble cutting together the Media.mp3 file to sync up with the video. But over time I learned tips and tricks to help get the finished product I wanted. The process took longer than I thought as I came up with new ideas as I went along the clips such as cutting to black with deep sound effects playing in the back to give a horror movie/surreal mood to the piece.

How did the editing affect the outcome of the task?

I think I was too over my head at the beginning of the project, until I started to simplify what I needed to do (Near the end... Of course... ). But overall I do feel it met the criteria as it consists of a character walking into another room where he meets another character, and talk. If I could plan more carefully want I want/needed to do to make this the best it could be, I would of have to of been more of a team player and be sure of exactly what I wanted from my preliminary task.

Does you Preliminary Task meet the set criteria?

I have learnt that filming shots and scenes takes a lot of time and patience, and choosing shots carefully is vital considering what the context of the video is. I have learnt how to use iMovie to an average degree. And finally, I have learnt how drastic a change editing can make to the original screenplay ideas.

What have you learnt?
