The exam paper contains a list of 5 questions: Choose ONE During this exam you will be expected to make a clear link/ connection to your chosen question/ starting point and demonstrate a range of ideas, experiments/ exploration and possible outcomes. You will be introduced to the 5 questions/ starting points in class by your teacher via a slide-show. It is important that you make/ take notes during this introduction and ask questions if you are unsure about anything. The examination has two components: 1. 'Prep'/ Development work (7 weeks) - Sketchbook studies and ‘prep’

items.

2. Final Outcome (5hrs/ 1 full day) - The Main Outcome

You will have 7 weeks to complete the 1st component, which should include evidence for assessment objectives 1,2 and 3. Your final exam/ outcome will take place over 1 full day (5hrs), and will be conducted in strict examination conditions. You should include evidence for assessment objective 4, before and during your final outcome.

● Exam 'Prep' & Development: Mon 30th Jan > Sun 18th March 2012

● Exam Day: Mon 19th March 2012

Below is a suggested guide as to how you should spend your time throughout the exam project. NOTE: This is only a guide, you should aim to do more...... A LOT MORE!!! Try to follow the guide weekly, and tick-off completed items, as and when you have completed each suggested action. When What HowWk 1 1. Receive the examination

paper from your teacher.2. Observe the slide-show to

gain inspiration/ ideas for your own work/ project.

3. Read this exam guidance paper carefully.

4. Begin planning and preparing your sketchbook/ journal.

5. Visit the Exam pages on the Visual Arts site.

1. Collect your examination paper in class from your teacher. Write your name and class along the top of the paper. Keep this paper safe (inside your sketchbook/ journal).

2. Observe the slide-show in your class taking notes and gain/ gather inspiration and ideas for your own work/ project.

3. Read the exam paper fully. Discuss the theme with friends/ family/ teachers.

4. You may need a new sketchbook/ journal. Begin with a title-page, then use a mind-map to illustrate your initial thoughts ideas. Write about what you intend to do.

5. Go to the Visual Arts site and use the resources available to fully understand what you need to/ could do throughout your exam project.

1. Research and explore work created by other artists. Use the AO1 Guidance Doc to access resources, links and help. Try to find examples of work that 'inspire' you.

2. Also perform your own searches using a variety of methods: Books/ Library, Internet, visit an exhibiton/ gallery.

3. Present all of the work found inside your sketchbook/ journal. Include full comments and explanations for your interest/ relevance to the theme.

4. Save/ download and Print out copies of Artists work.

practice outcomes.

1. Aim to create at least 1/2 pages per artist/ photographer. Include facts/ opinion and thoughts and also ensure you include references to where you obtained the info/ pictures, such as book titles/ authors and/or URL's/ web addresses.

2. Copy/ emulate the work of your found artist/ photographer in your sketchbook/ journal. Try producing copies that mimics their work (at least 2/3 pages).

3. Identify techniques used by your artist/ photographer, and re-produce these techniques using your own ideas/ work.

4. Create your own versions (2-3) of work 'in the style of' your artist/ photographer.

5. Explain 'in detail' all of your work. Use 'reasons', and critique: What, How, Why?

6. Aim to have at least 2-3 possible final outcomes/ ideas for your own work and illustrate these ideas by producing a series of sketches that help to visualise your intentions for each. Include comments/ annotations to all of these.

7. Using full sketchbook/ journal pages make some initial 'prep' outcomes. Explore method, technique and media. (Photographers - ensure you produce 'Contact-Sheets' for all ideas).

your intended exam piece.2. Illustrate method/

1. Working outside of your sketchbook/ journal, aim to make a large version of your 'Prep' work/ ideas.

■ Art students consider working on large paper or a medium canvas.

2. In your sketchbook/ journal, illustrate

the method/ technique that you intend to use for your work.

■ Art students create 2-3 pages of 'sample' studies using a variety of medium.

3. In your sketchbook/ journal, illustrate

a plan for you to follow during the exam(s).

4. Explain: What you will do, When you will do it, How you will do it.

○ Art students produce an outline of your intended work.

Wk 5 1. Initial developments.2. Large 'Prep' work

1. In your sketchbook/ journal, aim to make large versions of your intended final outcome. Explore a range of styles/ colours.

Art students consider using full and/or double pages. Replicate your work showing a range of colour/

2. Prepare for the exam(s)

1. Re-visit all sketchbook/ journal pages and check that you have included:

a short written explanation of your intentions.

4. Obtain required materials for your exam - DO NOT leave anything to chance

You should approach your Examination like a 'Project'. As such your work will be assessed using the four Assessment Objectives: ● AO1: DEVELOP your ideas through investigations and links

to Artists/ Photographers. Demonstrate analysis and cultural understanding.

● AO2: EXPLORE your ideas/ work by experimenting and exploring

media, materials and processes. ● AO3: RECORD your ideas, observations and insights in ways that

are relevant to your intentions. ● AO4: PRESENT and create a personal, and meaningful response to

the given theme. Demonstrating analytical and critical understanding in ways that are relevant to your development studies/ work, and with clear links/ connections to the work of others.

For each of the assessment objectives your work will me marked out of 20.

A total of 80 marks can be gained. Use the scale/ indicator below for help in understanding how marks will be awarded:

'Prep' Work

● You will be given 7 weeks of 'Prep' time. During this time you should ensure that you are fully prepared for lessons (do not forget your sketchbook/ journal or other resources).

● Try to dedicate some 'personal' time each week. For example 30

mins each evening, or 2-3 hours per week will help your final grade prospects enormously. (Come to Art Clinic)

● The first 3 assessment objectives should be used as a 'task-list'.

Creating work for each of these assessment objectives will help your project develop, and give your final outcome (Exam Piece) a much better chance of success.

● Make full use of the 'Art Clinic' every Wednesday 3pm onwards. Re-

arrange your other commitments during this time so that you are able to attend.

● Begin your 'Prep' work with a title-page. Then produce a mind-map to

illustrate your initial thoughts/ ideas. Consider: Artists > Medium > Outcome(s).

● After a completing a series (2-3) of possible outcomes (experimenting

with colour, composition, scale, layout and media), produce one large version of what you intend to create during the exam.

● You will have 5 hours to complete your final outcome for the mock examination project.

● This will take place over one day, so ensure that you attend all day, and

that you are prepared, organised and punctual. ● Examination conditions will be in place:

○ No talking/ communication.○ No Mobile phones/ Music devices.○ SILENCE inside the exam rooms.○ No assistance can be provided by the exam invigilator/ teacher,

however if you require physical assistance raise your hand and wait.

● Ensure that you have a clear plan to follow for the exam. Write this plan

into your sketchbook/ journal during your 'prep' work/ time. ● Ensure that you have all resources/ materials needed during the exam.

For example you may need to purchase a canvas (Art). ● Allow time at the end of the day to clear-up. If you finish your work

before the end of the exam. You must sit in silence until you are dismissed. When dismissed, you are to leave the room immediately.

● Break and lunch times will take place at the same time(s) as normal,

however, DO NOT return to the exam room late, as this will cause disturbance to other students, and could jeopardise your own exam.

● This exam guidance paper ● Perhaps a new sketchbook/ journal (in theory you should FILL a

sketchbook/ journal during this exam project). These can be bought for £5.00ea from the department, if needed, or obtain your own from any good high street store.

● Art Students: Canvas's - A medium (A3/2) for your 'prep' outcomes,
