“AS CRIANÇAS DA CASA DA CALÇADA” The exhibition “As Crianças da Casa da
Calçada”- (The Children from the House of the Calçada), accompanies the official release of a children’s book with the same title, to be held on the 28th of November. The story and all the display is developed from characters featuring the museum’s collection and a plot that recovers neglected values, involving the museum’s facilities and many of its pieces. The project offers a new approach and a new way of promoting the institution’s collections. The exploration of different objects and their cultural origins, the interconnection between those cultures and their transposition to the island’s daily life, with its own traditions
and experiences, are enriching and appealing factors that allow the museum to offer something less ordinary.
The project, planned to celebrate the work developed over a decade by House-Museum Frederico de Freitas/Educational Services Department, is conducted in partnership with Madeira Ethnographic Museum and counts on the support of “Escola Básica e Secundária Dr. Ângelo Augusto da Silva”, as well as with the collaboration from other private volunteers. It’s a different commitment, particularly targeted to diversified local publics.

“PeARL”
The Contemporary Art Museum of Funchal (MAC) hosts an exhibition by James Casanova as from November 7.
This display, in partnership with the Salgadeiras Gallery, gathers 51 (30 analog/film photographs, a period photograph and 20 Polaroid images), seeking to highlight, or not, the proximity between the natural and build landscapes, emphasising the contrast among these two realities.
Tiago Casanova was born in Madeira in 1988, graduated in Architecture from FAUP/Porto.
In 2002 he was one of the winners of “BES Photo Revelation” competition. Some of his works have been selected, in the current year, for the Plat(t)form best works panel, organized by the Fotomuseum Winterthur in Zurich.
“Pearl” may be visited until the 3rd of January, 2015.

“mAI mAIoReS QU’eSSeI SeRRAS”
two old man around 70 or 80 year-old, under an oak tree, approach a foreigner. they grab that opportunity with the same love that they treasure the land that marks their hands. From a small hill that didn’t seem to be very special and from an empty stage, arises a performance with no limits.
the “Associação teatro Feiticeiro do Norte” (theatre Association Sorcerer of the North) is also an itinerant theatrical team, and with the play “mai maiores qu’essei serras” (even higher than those mountains) from the homonymous short story by Jorge Sumares, written in April 1960, states that: “tá serra que meta medo à gente” (there’s no mountain or hill that frightens us)
on August 16, 2014, in Diário de Notícias da madeira, António Fournier, wrote: an authentic radiography of our imaginary, a subtle analysis of an individual’s psychology, who Nemésio considered to be “one of the most plastic men in the land’s neighbourhood” (...) a reunion with the deepest of our own myths.
