Howell, Director of Art, Design and Technology AS & A Level Photograpy (AQA) PROGRESSION ROUTES An A-Level in Photography can help students prepare for further study or careers in a vast range of opƟons, such as; architecture, interior design, fashion and other forms of deisgn, from engineering to graphics. HOMEWORK Homework is set weekly, and must be completed to a high standard every week. It may take the form of working on a project, piece of research or compleƟng work started in class. Students will be encouraged to work independently. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS Grade 6 GCSE Art and Design or Photography. COURSE DESCRIPTION GCE Photography is an exciƟng course which will develop criƟcal and cultural unde understanding; enabling students to develop personal, creaƟve responses, whilst teaching the formal elements of photography and art and design. Students will study both contemporary and tradiƟonal approaches to Photography by uƟlising our Mac suite and darkroom facilites. The The course incorporates pracƟcal work with wriƩen criƟcal analysis and personal study. The course will be differenƟated to accomodate students with or without a GCSE in Photography; however you should have achieved at least a grade 6 in Art and Design at GCSE or have a strong porƞolio or photographs demonstraƟng flair and commitment to the subject. Photography students should demonstrate an understanding of past and contemporary Photography pracƟce, and be able to produce work that embraces a range of ideas. This specificaƟon aims to develop: - creaƟve and imaginaƟve ability and pracƟcal skills for engaging with and for communicaƟng and expressing original ideas, feelings and meanings in art, craŌ and design. - invesƟgaƟve, analyƟcal, experimental and interpreƟve capabiliƟes, aestheƟc understanding and criƟcal and enquiring minds, with increasing independence. - cultural knowledge and understanding of art, craŌ and design and of the - cultural knowledge and understanding of art, craŌ and design and of the media and technologies used in different Ɵmes, contexts and socieƟes. - personal aƩributes including self confidence, resilience, perseverance, self-discipline and commitment. ASSESSMENT Photography is comprised of components. Students must show evidence for all four Assessment ObjecƟves for all components. AS Component 1 (Porƞolio) is worth 60% of the overall AS grade. AS Component 2 (Externally Set 5-hour Assignment) is worth 40% of the overall AS grade. A A-Level Component 1 (Personal InvesƟgaƟon) is worth 60% of the overall A-Level grade. A-Level Component 2 (Externally Set 15 -hour Assignment) is worth 40% of the overall A-Level grade.
