This generous gift of over 300 pieces of original fine art, prints by 23 nationally recognized artists, was donated to be sold to benefit the mission of Openhouse,which is to help Bay Area LGBT seniors overcome the unique challenges they face as they age, providing housing,direct services and community programs.services and community programs.

The works range from superb abstracts by Mauro Giuffrida to the Postmodern manipulated photographs of Jimmy DeSana, whose reputation was already established when he died from AIDS in 1990. There are brilliant florals by Francesco Scavullo, the celebrated fashion photographer, and Clayton Pond's slyly humorous and brilliantly colored iconic images of American cultureand space exploration. iconic images of American cultureand space exploration.

Jimmy DeSanaA key figure in the East Village punk art scene of the 1970s and 1980s, photographer ,Jimmy DeSana died in 1990 leaving behind a legacy of Surrealist images that frequently address the enigmaticnature of sexual and emotional identity. He was close friends with fellow photographers Laurie Simmons, Cindy Sherman, Richard Prince, Sherrie Levin and Barbara Kruger,Cindy Sherman, Richard Prince, Sherrie Levin and Barbara Kruger,who changed the medium by fabricating and manipulating photographs. DeSana’s portraits of celebrities, artists, and musicians helped setthe style of the early Punk Rock era. William S. Burroughs wrote the introduction to his 1980 self-published collection of photographs titled Submission.
