This camp provides students of violin, viola, cello and bass an opportunity not only to polish their instrumental skills, but to create their own music as well. Thecamp combines String Ensemble classes with a Language Arts class, in whichstudents learn journaling, storytelling, and poetry. The students then select oneof their poems or stories, from which a team of fellow students creates a performance with original words and original music. Students succeed, sometimes astonishingly well, in expressing themselves, while at the same time perfecting their skills of music and language. There will be a final performance onAugust 5th that is open to the public.

This camp, recognized internationally for the caliber of its jazz education programs, includes ensemble practice, theory and improvisation. Students enjoy the opportunity to perform in both small and large-group ensembles; a superb faculty; and the opportunity to work with guest artists (which have included Wynton Marsalis, John and Jeff Clayton, James Moody, Bobby Watson and Danilo Perez, Scott Hamilton, Bucky Pizzarelli, Louis Bellson, Marcus Bellgrave, David “Fathead” Newman, Russell Malone, Winard Harper). There will be a final concert on July 22nd at 2:00 pm that is open to the public.
