The gallery is excited to be welcoming a selection of artists from The Royal West of England Academy (RWA). The show will include work from 27 of its newest members from the last five years.

Millfield has a long standing reputation for outstanding

provision in all areas of the creative arts. This calendar gives you a flavour of the exciting offering for the coming year. Of course, at the heart of our programme are concerts and performances given by our pupils. However, we also embrace professional musicians in our International Concert Series in the Johnson Hall and art exhibitions in the Atkinson Gallery.

Showcase


The jewel in the crown of the charitable fundraising year. All pupils are invited to audition and the selected acts perform on the following nights. Song, dance, comedy and a few surprises are always sure to feature on the bill.

In 1600, Will Kemp, one of the leading actors in Shakespeare’s company danced his way from London to Norwich in nine days, entertaining an adoring public en route. The Society of Strange and Ancient Instruments, with dancer Steven Player, celebrate Will Kemp’s account of the journey, ‘Nine Daies Wonder’, with raucous dance tunes and more refined music of the Elizabethan age. They breathe new life into this celebrated event, which remains awe-inspiring 400 years on, and still has the power to delight, baffle and amuse.

Apollo5 Concert


Following a day of workshops with Millfield Choirs and local prep schools, Millfield Music School is thrilled to host the world-renowned Apollo5. The British vocal quintet will give an engaging and lively performance of a wide repertoire of classical, folk, jazz and pop a cappella. Apollo5 is part of the charity Voces Cantabiles Music, with a commitment to providing inspiring musical opportunities for young people.

For over 20 years, Millfield has performed major choral works in Wells Cathedral, with our School Choir combining with Millfield Chorale, our adult choral society. This year sees the massed choir of over 200 singers perform Mozart’s Requiem alongside a professional orchestra.

Born in 1987 in Ludwigshafen as the son of professional musicians, Joseph Moog’s ability to combine exquisite technical skill with a mature and intelligent musicality set him apart as a pianist who should be taken very seriously. A Grammy nominee, he is a champion of rare and forgotten repertoire as well as composing his own works. He received the Award for Young Artist of the Year 2015 at the Gramophone Classical Music Awards.

Junior Play


The Junior Play is one of the highlights of the Drama calendar. Recent years have seen exceptionally creative productions of Skellig and Lady Macbeth, a re-imagining of Shakespeare’s famous play. The Junior Play always attracts an enthusiastic and committed cast and crew from Year 9 and 10 pupils and gives them a wonderful opportunity to perform a full scale show.
