Dubuffet’s work seemed to be made for this project. I can many shapes closely resembling letter forms straight away. I pulled out a few of these shapes using felt pens on paper to explore how these shapes and letterforms would sit in relationship to each other rather than stacked up and piled together.

Artist Typeface ProjectE.A. Seguy
Eugene Alain Seguy was one of the foremost French designers at the beginning of the 20th century. Working in both the Art Deco and Art Nouveau styles, he published many design folios utilizing the pochoir technique, a printing process that employs a series of stencils to lay dense and vivid color.
Eugene Alain Seguy produced eleven albums of illustrations and designs from the turn of the century to the 1930s, and his style reflected the influences of both Art Nouveau and Art Deco

In a style he called “minimal realism”, Charley Harper captured the essence of his subjects with the fewest possible visual elements. He contrasted his nature-oriented artwork with the realism of John James Audubon, drawing influ-ence from Cubism, Minimalism,Einsteinian physics and countless other developments in Modern art and science. His style distilled and simplified complex organisms and natural sub-jects, yet they are often arranged in a complex fashion

Display Type Research
I decided to do some further research into display fonts to help with refining my Jon Burgerman typeface. I wanted to keep a lot of individuality to each of the charecters but this had to be balanced to ensure the typeface works as a whole not just indivual letters
Looking At:
• Alignment of characters on
baseline
• use of upper and lowercase
• Different weights within one
typeface
• letter spacing
